  • When choosing an attorney, consider the following three key factors ⬇️ 1. Experience and Expertise: Look for an attorney with substantial experience in the specific area of law relevant to your case. An attorney’s expertise in a particular legal field (e.g., family law, criminal defense, personal injury) can greatly influence the outcome of your case. Ask about their track record and any cases similar to yours that they’ve handled. With over a decade of experience, we look forward to fighting for you! 2. Communication and Availability: Effective communication is crucial in any legal matter. Choose an attorney who is responsive, clear in explaining legal concepts, and willing to keep you informed about the progress of your case. They should be approachable and accessible when you need to discuss important details. At The Shealey Law Firm, we pride ourselves in treating every client like family. We’re available for you 24/7. 3. Reputation and Client Reviews: Research the attorney’s reputation in the legal community and among past clients. Look for client reviews, testimonials, or any disciplinary records. An attorney with a strong reputation for professionalism, ethical standards, and successful case outcomes is more likely to represent your interests effectively. We’re proud of our 200+ five-star reviews!

  • Mikaela Andrews, a Charleston native, always knew that she wanted to help those who needed it most. After graduating from the College of Charleston in 2018 with a B.A. in Psychology, she started working as a paralegal, assisting on complex tort litigation cases for those injured in the Charleston area. After interning with a statewide nonprofit to help create legislation for criminal justice reform in South Carolina, Mikaela knew she wanted to work in criminal defense and opted to attend the Charleston School of Law. Mikaela began working as an attorney at our Charleston office, but has recently joined us here in Columbia! We are so happy to have her as part of the Shealey team.

  • What to know if you’re pulled over after you’ve been drinking: We do not condone drinking and driving. It is illegal and poses serious risks to yourself and others… However, if you find yourself stopped by law enforcement after consuming alcohol, it’s important to know your rights and how to handle the situation responsibly. If you’re pulled over and you’ve been drinking: 1. Stay calm and polite. 2. Provide your identification and license when asked. 3. You can refuse to do field sobriety tests: In many jurisdictions, field sobriety tests (such as walking in a straight line or balancing on one foot) are voluntary. You have the right to politely refuse these tests. They are often subjective and can be used as evidence against you. However, refusing these tests may lead to the officer relying more heavily on other factors (such as your demeanor and smell of alcohol) to determine probable cause for further testing. 4. Remain silent. You can politely decline to answer questions beyond providing basic information such as your name and address. 5. Consider chemical tests carefully: Refusing a chemical test can lead to administrative penalties such as automatic license suspension or revocation, depending on your jurisdiction. These penalties can be severe and immediate, often more so than if you were convicted of DUI. Consult with a lawyer if you’re unsure whether to refuse or comply with a chemical test. 5. You can refuse a search of your vehicle unless the officer has probable cause. 6. Follow legal procedures if arrested; you have the right to contact an attorney. 7. Consult with a DUI attorney afterward to understand your options and protect your rights. #chs #chsfoodscene #charleston #shemcreek #iop #charlestonsc #realcolumbiasc #columbiasc
