Shout out to our volunteers that are busy packing local produce each week from local farmers. This beautiful locally grown produce goes out each week to our network of partner food shelves for families to enjoy. 🥬

Food for today. Change for tomorrow.
About us
The Food Group is a nonprofit working toward food justice and equity. We are building a better food system by providing fresh, quality, and nutritious foods to food access partners, affordable grocery programs, Fare For All and Twin Cities Mobile Market, in urban and rural spaces, and land access and farmer education at Big River Farms. Food for today, change for tomorrow.

Yesterday we had Takeda volunteers from their local branch! Many thanks to Takeda for making our work possible. They recently awarded The Food Group a four-year grant to help us better serve our 500+ food shelf and hunger relief partners across Minnesota. Their support will ensure we can get more healthy and culturally connected foods into our community! 🍎

We believe everyone deserves access to nutritious and locally sourced foods, and we know from experience that this access is made possible in part by collaborative relationships with other community organizations. The partnership between our Big River Farms program and Minneapolis Public Schools' farm to school program is just one way we help ensure Minnesotans of all ages have access to nutritious fruits and vegetables — and support local emerging farmers at the same time. Thank you to The Minnesota Star Tribune for featuring us in this article about funding challenges facing nonprofits in Minnesota, and to Kelly Smith for covering nonprofit issues to bring more awareness to the greater community! We joined forces with Hunger Solutions Minnesota earlier this year, which added advocacy efforts to our range of programs and services and also helped to create efficiencies between the organizations. There are so many great causes worthy of support in our state, and the collective impact of nonprofits through continued community support makes such a difference! https://bit.ly/3TDEEKt

This past Sunday, amidst joyous music, excited congregants, and a dedicated leader, Shiloh Cares Food Shelf was reintroduced to its North Minneapolis Neighborhood. In a program as extensive as SCFS's impact, State and Local Elected officials came together with local hunger relief leaders to celebrate with the Shiloh Temple community the culmination of a year of moving mountains to ensure the Shiloh Cares Food Shelf was redesigned and rebuilt to honor and serve their community for generations to come. The Food Group was proud to be part of the program as a proud partner of Shiloh Cares Food Shelf.

Our heartfelt appreciation for everyone who joined us at this year's Rising Tides event, held at Pinstripes in Edina. With your support, we raised $26,000 to continue creating a Minnesota where no one worries about where their next meal is coming from. Rising Tides is Hunger Solutions Minnesota's annual event, and as we've joined forces with them we've been thrilled to continue this legacy. And a special thanks to Luther Auto for coming on as the presenting sponsor and helping make the event possible!

Volunteer with us! We're doing on-farm gleaning every Thursday and most Tuesdays now through October. Join us from 10AM to 1PM at farms within a one-hour radius of our New Hope warehouse. Volunteers harvest and collect excess produce and redistribute it to our food shelf partners. It's a great way to spend some time outdoors while giving back to the community. Universal school meals are working, but not in two key school districts who are opting out. This groundbreaking policy — led by The Food Group’s policy team, who co-chaired the Hunger-Free Schools Coalition to pass the legislation — guarantees that every child in the state has access to free breakfast and lunch at school, regardless of their family’s income. The Food Group recognizes the importance of school meals as a strategy to get nutritious foods to all kids in MN schools. FOX 9 | KMSP-TV found that Prior Lake and Byron High Schools are opting out of the program. It's a move that has upset many parents in the district. Fall is a time for workplace giving campaigns. Does your employer host an annual United Way campaign or some other kind of workplace giving program? We hope you'll consider designating your gift to The Food Group! At a time of increasing hunger in our community, your gift will nourish families most in need across our community. Even better, many companies will match their employees’ donations, doubling their impact! Contact your company’s campaign manager or human resources to learn more — or, when making your gift, select The Food Group as a beneficiary. Our EIN number is 41-1246504.
