Heath professions employees from the following departments at our main campus celebrated their annual Five-Star Excellence Awards on October 2: respiratory therapy, biomedical engineering, pathology and laboratory, clinical nutrition, radiology, rehabilitation services, and pharmacy, including cancer care pharmacy, retail pharmacy and home infusion. The recipients, who were nominated and selected by their peers, embody our Five-Star metrics — Quality, Service, People, Sustainability and Growth. Tommy Van Towel, DPT, outpatient rehabilitation manager, was recognized as Leader of the Year.
Congratulations to Abby Monaghan, a nurse on the trauma/surgery floor, who is a recent recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. She was nominated by a patient for whom she cared for multiple days. The grateful patient says they perceived Monaghan saw them as a person and not just the patient. "I felt like this nurse heard me when I talked and wasn't just listening to be done with me to move on," the patient wrote on Monaghan. "They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, they have very good bedside manner, and they always treated me with respect and dignity."
