“This isn’t about making an example out of X, but asking all platforms to take the actions they can to make our online lives that much safer.” Elon Musk’s X could be profiting from ads placed near accounts inciting misinformation that fuelled the recent UK riots in the wake of the Southport attack, according to the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH). Analysis showed that five key accounts that posted “false and misleading claims” had amassed 260 million views in the week following the attack, equating to 38.9 ad impressions. And some big brands, including GSK, the International Olympic Committee – IOC, and the British Medical Association had their ads placed near posts from these accounts. Our Co-Global CEO Linn Frost joined Rick Edwards this morning on his BBC 5 Live show to talk about the need for better Social Media regulation. Key takeaways: 🌍 We need to find an effective solution ideally at a global level that has the ability to react quickly. 🚀 Social platform owners have incredible power and we cannot let this power be used to push an individuals agenda, even under the guise of 'freedom of speech'. 📺 Social is considered as a main source of information by many, we therefore need it to be treated with the same rigour as a mainstream broadcaster. 🛑 Hate should never be tolerated. We need to do everything in our power to put measures in place to ban anyone who is proven to be inciting this behaviour (platform owner or not). Lets stop hate and together #make social better https://lnkd.in/e6Mf89WR from 1:44.56 in
