This week, The Rockefeller Foundation is proud to join leaders at the Africa Food Systems Forum in Kigali highlighting the critical role of school meals in sustainable food systems. School meals can transform children’s lives and sustain the planet – for example transitioning to fortified whole grains could improve nutrition for billions of people without increasing production costs.🌱 At a special side event, hosted by our own Umuliza M. Njiru and Peiman Milani, we explored how scaling home-grown school meal programs can enhance community health and resilience. As children go back to classrooms, let’s work to give them all a healthy start. #SchoolMeals #ClimateAction #RockefellerFoundation #AFSForum2024 #BackToSchool #MakingOpportunityUniversal

Emerging markets represent 85% of the global population yet attract just 5.4% of total global venture capital funding. This funding gap is particularly significant for seed-stage capital, and companies with women founder or co-founders. That’s why #ZeroGapFund invested in Seedstars International Ventures II to fill in the gap across lowest income markets. The impact so far: - Mobilized $20.7 million in capital - Committed $6 million to portfolio companies - Invested in an additional 20 companies, 35% of which had women co-founders in 2023 Find out more about our impact investing collaborative with the MacArthur Foundation: https://lnkd.in/eQXsgSut

As the climate crisis worsens, it is clear traditional forms of agriculture are no longer fit for purpose. Our global food system has led to water scarcity, biodiversity loss, diet related disease and erosion of farmer well-being, the effects of which equate to nearly $20 trillion each year. There needs to be a global transition to regenerative agricultural practices which prioritize the sustainability of our global food system.
