We were delighted to host Mission Australia at our headquarters this month to share best practices around homelessness services. The nonprofit from down under provides services across Australia, including affordable housing, support for disadvantaged children and families, and much more. They were particularly interested in learning about our transitional housing programs for young people, as they recently opened their first transitional living program. This year, The Night Ministry has also hosted homelessness service providers from Japan and Brazil, and we have more international visitors on our calendar.

We work hard at The Night Ministry, but we play hard when the time is right. Staff and family had a wonderful time at our annual picnic earlier this month, held at lovely Walsh Park across from our Bucktown headquarters. We enjoyed delicious food from @Sultan's Market, Paleteria Juarez and Sergio De La Cruz and amazingly fun games and entertainment from Record-A-Hit Entertainment including your friendly neighborhood caricature artist Angel, talented airbrush tattoo artist Angel, and the popular human foosball game!

A lack of affordable housing continues to squeeze our struggling neighbors, putting more at risk of homelessness. National Low Income Housing Coalition’s latest GAP report shows that there are only 36 affordable and available rental homes for every 100 extremely low-income renter households in Illinois.
