"Seeing the role that Starlink has played in North Carolina’s disaster response, I’m beginning to think there might be room for a Space National Guard," says Scott Pace, director of the Space Policy Institute at George Washington University. https://lnkd.in/gyyJ8vxx

The National Guard Association of the United States is the Guard’s primary advocate in Washington, D.C.
About us
The National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) is a nonpartisan organization representing nearly 45,000 current and former Army and Air National Guard officers. Formed in 1878, NGAUS is focused on procuring better equipment, standardized training and a more combat-ready force by petitioning Congress for resources. Well over a century later, NGAUS has the same mission. Our goal is to maintain the freedom and security of this nation by guaranteeing a strong national defense through the provision of a vital, dynamic National Guard as a part of the Total Force.

John Klein, a professor and expert in military strategy, argued during a recent presentation at George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute that a Space National Guard would provide much-needed support during disaster relief efforts. We strongly agree. https://lnkd.in/gyyJ8vxx

Active Guard and Reserve personnel on Title 32 orders will soon be eligible for the first time to participate in flexible spending accounts to help pay for dependent care and health care, defense officials told NGAUS last week. A common benefit for civilians, certain Guardsmen will be allowed to place pretax earnings into a special account to cover certain expenses, thereby reducing their taxable income and increasing the buying power of their paychecks. https://lnkd.in/efNHMFRE

The stopgap federal budget enacted Sept. 26 runs through Dec. 20 but leaves some military modernization programs on hold. Army officials said last week that the CR will halt eight procurement programs, 37 research initiatives, 19 military construction projects and 41 planned production rate increases. A delay in a planned production increase for the XM7 rifle and XM250 Next Generation Squad Weapon is one example. https://lnkd.in/e9cq4QGQ

"The Affordable Mental Health Care for Selected Reserve Act does that by removing cost-sharing burdens for services covered under TRICARE Reserve Select. We commend Senator Fetterman for this legislation. It will help ensure that all who have volunteered to defend our nation are ready when called and whole when they return home,” said retired Major General Francis M. McGinn, NGAUS president. https://lnkd.in/gFdUAsWM

We are even more eager to begin working with him on bettering our nearly 400-year-old institution that has served our states and nation so well.”

"Like most, my preference would be to pass full-year appropriations bills through regular order, but we are out of time," said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. "We cannot afford a shutdown, which would be greatly damaging to our national security, to critical government programs, and to the American people," he added, urging swift passage of the compromise CR. NGAUS supports the swift passage of a CR. https://lnkd.in/ebH-iZdY

Congress is poised to adopt language in the annual National Defense Authorization Act that would override governors’ authority over National Guard units but the good news is that Congress has time to reverse course, writes Maj. Gen. Francis M. McGinn (Ret.), the NGAUS president.
