Do you care about bolstering the cyber defenses of under-resourced public-interest organizations? Have you heard of cybersecurity clinics? Congressmen Marc Veasey (TX-33) and Eric Swalwell (CA-14) joined moderator Nicole Tisdale of The Aspen Institute at the UC Berkeley School of Information Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity's Cyber Civil Defense Summit to discuss cyber clinics and other #CyberCivilDefense strategies. ✅ Follow CLTC and The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics to learn more about our work to help decision makers act with foresight and expand who participates in cybersecurity. ICYMI: A recent CyberScoop article featured the Cybersecurity Clinics Grant Program Act, which would task the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency with establishing grant programs to fund cybersecurity clinics at community colleges, HBCUs, HSIs, & other minority-serving institutions. Representative Marc Veasey and Representative August Pfluger recently reintroduced the Cybersecurity Clinics Grant Program Act! This bill would charge the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency with creating grant programs to fund cybersecurity clinics at community colleges, historically Black colleges and universities, Hispanic-serving institutions and other institutions with predominantly minority populations. https://lnkd.in/e9GQMPDE

Hard to believe the NICE Conference and Expo wrapped up two weeks ago! Thanks very much to Google for featuring The University of Texas at Austin's Applied Cybersecurity Community Clinic at the Strauss Center for International Security and Law in a plenary session panel moderated by Maab Ibrahim. Not only were we able to spotlight the 15 incredible new cyber clinics launching with the support of the Google Cybersecurity Clinics Grant Fund, but we were also able to tell the stories of Jose Torres, a UT clinic alum whose team helped a municipal government in Central Texas prioritize its cybersecurity risks and take meaningful steps to reduce them, and Rachel B. Lee, a Longhorn business owner in Austin who sought the UT clinic's services after her business, StandOut Authority, suffered financial loss from a cyber attack. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's Mike Howell rounded us out by sharing his perspective on how cyber clinics are force multipliers of national cybersecurity resiliency efforts. Thank you again to our moderator for perfect preparation, our panelists for their time and stories, and congratulations again to the newly funded cybersecurity clinics!! I'm excited to keep the momentum going as we welcome you all to the The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics and share our lessons and experiences.

The Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics is proud to have 5 HBCUs join as official member institutions! Led by our colleague Professor Kevin Harris of Stillman College, the HBCU Cybersecurity Clinic Center works to increase the number of HBCUs that adopt the clinic model while simultaneously raising cybersecurity awareness or underserved communities. The Center will support advancing HBCU growth into the Consortium of Cybersecurity Clinics, promote awareness of the field across the HBCU landscape, provide mentorship for developing clinics and programs and establish a cybersecurity thought leadership program for HBCU faculty and staff.
