Inspiring and leading our region toward equity and shared prosperity for all

About us

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta inspires and leads the Atlanta region toward equity and shared prosperity for all who call it home. TogetherATL is the Foundation’s strategic ethos, working through a collaborative approach with community stakeholders, donors, nonprofits, and others to examine complex challenges the region faces and create solutions that build a thriving region. Formed in 1951, the Community Foundation today shepherds approximately $1.4 billion in current assets through its 1,000+ donor funds, while simultaneously raising and deploying more than $120 million annually to thousands of nonprofit organizations. It is Georgia’s second-largest foundation.

  • Opportunity opens doors to impact. Julia Houston started her journey with the Community Foundation in 2010, supporting causes she loves through a donor-advised fund. Little did she know, that decision would spark a deeper connection with the Foundation, leading to tailored nonprofit recommendations, site visits, and joining a collaborative donor network. In 2020, Julia took on a new role as a member of our Board of Directors, furthering her involvement. Now, she’s working with us to shape the TogetherATL strategic plan, focusing on addressing the pressing needs in our community. “I see the Foundation’s unique ability to be both a convener and a champion,” Julia says. “It’s incredibly exciting to be a part of it.” Julia’s story is a reminder that, with the right opportunities, anyone can help transform our community. Together, we’re building a stronger Atlanta one step at a time. Click here to read more: https://bit.ly/3zIEsCT

  • A coalition of Jewish, Muslim and Christian groups is organizing the Interfaith Health & Human Service Conference to establish a collaboration among our nonprofit leaders from diverse faith communities to come together and explore the intersection of spirituality, mental health and well-being. This conference seeks to bring stakeholders across communities into conversation to address mental health resources for youth in public and private sectors, as well as food security through means such as farm-to-table initiatives in schools and communities. • Architect Philip Trammell Shutze's legacy continues to shape Atlanta's cultural landscape. From contributions like the iconic Swan House to the Temple, Shutze's architectural vision remains omnipresent in Atlanta. His final wish was to preserve his remarkable collection of art, ceramics and other items at Swan House through a planned gift entrusted to the Atlanta History Center and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta: https://lnkd.in/eVk9ESdf

“My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I can, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have, to try to make a difference.” - President Jimmy E. Carter Diplomat. Equity champion. Peacemaker. President. Servant Leader. For the past century, Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, who turns 100 today, is all of those things. His presidency was full of “firsts”: He appointed 48 women and people of color to the federal bench across America—more than all presidents before him, combined. He expanded the national parks system through an executive order to protect vast acreage across Alaska. He brokered an unlikely, historic peace deal in the Middle East. And he sounded some of the earliest warning calls about climate change and the U.S.’ reliance on foreign oil, leading the effort to cut the country’s energy dependence. He continued to defy expectations after leaving the White House, leading what many have described as the most effective post-presidency in U.S. history. With his late wife, Rosalyn, he founded the Carter Center, dedicated to ending war, preventing disease and promoting peace and democracy around the globe, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity since the 1980s, building homes for countless families, and continued to teach Sunday school in Plains, in South Georgia, until he went into hospice care in 2022. He is our oldest living U.S. President. Long before equity, inclusion and shared prosperity were topics of national conversation, Jimmy Carter was bringing awareness, doing whatever he could, wherever he could, whenever he could, with whatever he had, to make a difference in the lives of others. To give others—many of whom he would never meet—a fair shot at a good life. I am inspired by his example. Thank you, Mr. President, for showing us how to dream a little bigger, reach a little higher and believe in what we can achieve when we all work together. On behalf of all of us at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, Happy 100th birthday. Photo credit: LBJ Library
