This news is so exciting! The USDA has announced a $1.7 billion investment to continue the transformative LFPA and LFS programs. Both of these programs have been crucial to the growth of Common Market Texas over the past three years, and I am so thrilled to see them continuing. LFS, especially, opens so many doors for school nutrition teams to rethink entrenched systems and processes that excluded small farmers and created barriers to nutritious, locally-grown food. At The Common Market Texas, we are thrilled to see this kind of innovation and proud to be partners for the change—working hand-in-hand with farmers to connect fresh, sustainable food to institutions and families. Let’s continue to build a resilient food system together! #texasfarmfresh #farmoschool #localfood #USDA #farmers #foodsystems https://lnkd.in/gerCyksx

Sustainably sourced & plated for a purpose 🍽 Recently, a group of Morrison chefs lead by Chef Thomas Sewell prepared and served a 5-course dinner to raise money for the Urban Regatta neighborhood festival and STEAMsport, Inc., a program that provides educational opportunities to youth in underserved communities. The menu items were sourced through our partnership with The Common Market Southeast and help support local farmers. We are so proud of our chefs for getting involved in their communities!

We did a little R&D today with bread flour from DaySpring Farms in Danielsville, GA. We made two delicious focaccias! The first was a garlic confit focaccia with black berries, pickled red onion, rosemary, Calabrian pepper compote and a maple drizzle. The second was garlic confit focaccia with cream cheese, bacon, chive and Maldon salt. Thank you The Common Market for help us source this fantastic local product! #farmtotable #flikisdining Seamus Nerge Brannen Odum Curtis Orwig, FMP Courtney Hill

It's officially back-to-school time, and we are honored to partner with so many of you throughout the region. It takes a village to run school food operations, and we are in awe of the hard work and passion our school nutrition leaders put into this work each and every day. And, it's newsworthy! FOX29 News Philadelphia spotlighted our partners at Camden City School District as they celebrated back to school with their monthly farmers' markets. Fresh produce was provided by The Common Market! "The Common Market plays a crucial role in connecting The Good Eating Company to farmers who use the kind of growing practices that align with their mission. Claire Turner agrees that working with a values-aligned distribution partner is essential to The Good Eating Company, noting her appreciation for the rigor with which The Common Market evaluates farms in its network to ensure that their claims are meaningful and not merely greenwashing. 'We rely on partners like The Common Market to help connect us to the values-aligned farmers who'll help us meet our goals,' she says." Learn more about how food service companies, like The Good Eating Company, are integrating sustainability goals into procurement practices in our blog: "More than Buzzwords: Integrating Sustainability Goals Into Procurement Practices".
