When I first read “RocketFuel” in October 2020, it was a few months after COVID had upended our lives and my divorce had left me feeling adrift. I was trying to figure out how to stabilize my company The Big Fish Contracting Company’s growth while navigating these personal challenges. The book introduced me to the concept of a Visionary, which resonated deeply with me. Equally relieving was learning about the Integrator role, someone who could manage day-to-day operations and steady the ship, allowing me to focus on big-picture ideas. I quickly implemented EOS™️ and fell in love with the process. It provided a light framework with guardrails that allowed me to be more creative and free. Structure equals freedom. Recognizing the value of having an Integrator, I sold 25% equity in my company to my friend Robert Tokay who took on this crucial role. By June 2021, I felt on top of the world, running a successful business with a solid leadership team. Then tragedy struck—my brother was murdered. During the three weeks I was out of the office, I realized that the systems we had put in place allowed the company to continue running smoothly. This tragedy made me realize that my ultimate goal wasn’t just to lead a roofing company. I needed a new purpose. EOS™️ gave me the space to heal and find the right people for the right roles. Later that fall, I read Gino Wickman’s “EOS Life,” which emphasized doing what you love, with people you love, making a difference, having time for passions, and being compensated fairly. Inspired, I started a podcast to learn about others’ stories and share them. In 2022, I attended my first EOS™️ conference and was thrilled to take a selfie with Gino Wickman, whose teachings had profoundly impacted my life. That same month, I began helping my friend Joseph Hughes with Contractor Dynamics and facilitating peer group roundtables for his clients. I was doing more of what I loved, and that summer, I spoke at my first event, sharing my story to inspire others to live their authentic selves without shame or guilt from the past. Fast forward to 2024, I was invited to be the opening keynote speaker at the EOS™️conference. Speaking with Gino, the teacher who had influenced my journey, was surreal. It showed me that anything is possible in life. To mark this chapter, I’m heading to Detroit, Michigan, to record episode 100 of my podcast. This milestone episode, where teacher and student intersect, is dedicated to inspiring the younger generation to find their true selves and the older generation to know it’s never too late to change. This journey has unfolded over just four short years, with God’s guidance and blessings every step of the way. I’m uncertain about the podcast’s future post-episode 100, but I wanted to share this milestone with all of you and express my deep gratitude to everyone who has supported me along this journey.
