Yesterday, the Indiana General Assembly Medicaid Oversight Committee met in the first of a series of meetings to discuss Indiana’s Medicaid Program. Kim Dodson, The Arc of Indiana CEO, shared a summary survey report developed by Indiana Families United for Care (IFU4C). Kim stated, “The Arc is extremely concerned that families are not receiving critical services needed to live safely at home and in their communities, and families providing care are increasingly stressed and overwhelmed as they try to provide the care and support needed for their loved ones.” Jennifer Dewitt, IFU4C stated, “Our team collected real time data revealing how FSSA changes are impacting families—not just financially—but also mentally, emotionally, and physically. We surveyed 170 families—they are struggling. For many waiver families, the care they’re providing is above nursing facility level of care, but rather hospital setting level of care. People aged 60 and older receiving Medicaid services, including Medicaid Waiver services, have been transitioned to the new PathWays managed care program. People receiving adult day services report losing transportation services since the transition. “In the coming week, the Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning (OMPP) will be releasing a bulletin to spell out differences between the transit services under the state Medicaid plan versus the Medicaid waiver … OMPP has communicated directly with Managed Care Entities on their responsibility for covering nonmedical transportation when it is a service approved on an individual’s service plan.” #2024WaiverChanges #Medicaid #PathWaysForAging
