The Texas Demographic Center produces, interprets, and distributes demographic information for Texas.
About us
For over 38 years, the Texas Demographic Center has monitored, produced, interpreted, and disseminated the best, most accurate, and objective demographic and socioeconomic data we can identify about our greatest asset, the people of Texas. The TDC provides technical assistance and training for the use and application of these data. Annually, the TDC processes hundreds of requests for data, presentations, expert testimony, media interviews, and custom analysis. The Population Estimates and Projections Program at the TDC produces annual estimates and biennial projections of the state and counties with demographic detail. The TDC serves data users by: Providing a data repository of demographic and socioeconomic information from the Census bureau and other trusted sources; Disseminating demographic trends and projections in reports, briefs, maps, and presentations; Providing training and technical expertise in the use of data from various sources; Providing technical expertise and assistance in the creation of demographic web applications and dashboards; and Performing custom data analysis for users with specific demographic research questions. The TDC also maintains an extensive library including research briefs and publications, infographics, presentations, and webinars.

According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, since 2019, the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanic students has been rising, while the number of degrees awarded to NH Whites has been declining. In 2023, Hispanic females earned more bachelor’s degrees than any other group in TX.

The recently released Census Bureau #2020Census S-DHC file provides data on characteristics of households and the people that live in them. Average household size has decreased among all race groups since 2000, with this decrease particularly noticeable in Hispanic households.

#HispanicHeritageMonth. We recognize the vital role of Hispanics in the TX workforce. They make up 38% of the employed population and significantly contribute to Construction, Arts, and Retail Trade but remain underrepresented in Information Technology, Finance, and the Military.

The U.S. Census Bureau released the 2023 ACS 1-year estimates, providing social, economic, housing, and demographic data for geographies with more than 65,000 people. This data shows that Texas marriage and divorce rates have decreased between 2013 and 2023.
