TESSA strives to realize our vision of a community free of violence for all

About us

TESSA was established in May 1977 in response to a high rate of calls to local law enforcement from women threatened or assaulted by their partners. At the time, Domestic Violence was considered a private matter and resources were difficult to locate, if they existed at all. With assistance from within the legal and philanthropic communities TESSA emerged as an information provider and resource referral service. That initial effort has evolved into a multi-faceted agency that includes a confidential Safehouse, Victim Advocacy, Counseling and Children’s Programs, a 24/7 Safe Line, and Community Outreach and Education. Through these efforts, TESSA strives to realize our vision of a community free of personal violence for all. Fundamentally, we do three things: 1. Provide immediate safety at our confidential Safehouse for women, children, and other victims escaping abuse. 2. Empower survivors through programs and support such as Advocacy and Counseling. 3. Create a safer future through Education and Outreach to schools, businesses, and other organizations.

⬇ Abuse is always a choice

You are NOT responsible for someone else’s decision to control, hurt or manipulate you. Our society misses the mark when it comes to relationship education. We’re socialized to believe that unhealthy relationships and behaviors are normal, or even romantic. It can be hard to reconcile what we think we should be excited about in a partner with what may actually be triggering concerns about abuse. When things like open, honest communication, healthy boundaries, equality and trust are not taught as the norm, we can’t expect survivors to identify them as such, especially if they have never been in a relationship where these things existed. #DVAwareness #DomesticViolence #SupportingSurvivors

TESSA and other services like ours need your help!

📢 Advocacy Alert! Did you know that the Victims of Crime Act (#VOCA) is facing a critical reduction of 40% in 2024? The proposed cut will endanger millions of victims and survivors of violence. The Crime Victims Fund supports vital services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse, and more. These services are lifesaving. However, looming cuts threaten to force layoffs, program cuts, and even the closure of essential programs across the nation. Congress must fund the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) in the 2024 fiscal year budget without sacrificing other critical programs that protect public safety. Your voice matters. Write your members of Congress now here: https://bit.ly/3Sp6sSJ #MyVoiceMatters #SupportingSurvivors #DomesticViolenceAwareness

Victim services including TESSA, have already lost millions due to gradual VOCA cuts. We need to Address the #Crisis4Victims in Colorado, and we are asking our State representatives & Senators to help fund victim services like TESSA. We will have another set back if #VOCA funding is reduced and not be able to help survivors and victims seeking help. Ask our State Reps and Senators for help with TESSA and other Victim Services across Colorado.
