We are thrilled to support BioHive Utah with their return-to-work initiative! In partnership with the State of Utah, BioHive is generating new pathways for individuals to return back to the life sciences industry after an extended absence. They are launching a returnship program- a similar model to internships to provide customized support to experienced professionals that would like to return to work. Beginning next month, BioHive will offer a series of free events to provide return-to-work training, career mapping exercises, networking with the returnship community, and connections with companies. These interrelated events will lead to open positions with their partner companies this fall. After 7 months of sacrificing Saturdays, these amazing women have shown incredible dedication and perseverance. Today, we had the privilege of celebrating with their families, who have been their biggest supporters. Through this grant opportunity, our new returnship program is offering Salesforce certifications and work experience to returners looking to re-enter the workforce after a career break. Tech-Moms is excited to welcome Anna Gallagher as the Salesforce Project Manager. We would also like to welcome Cheryl Brady, Rachel P-B and Kim Starr as our Salesforce returners. These talented women will be learning all things Salesforce, while building several aspects of our organization into this industry leading platform. We are thrilled to share our impact report as part of year one of the Microsoft TechSpark Fellowship. TechSpark has a mission to ignite change in all 50 states, and Tech-Moms is the designated organization in Utah. Aligning with the TechSpark philosophy, “talent is everywhere, opportunity is not,” we launched a cybersecurity cohort in 2024 to help women transition into this high demand field. My dear friend, Richelle D., is someone I've been able to reconnect with by getting on LinkedIn! Richelle and I taught English together in China WAY BACK in the day. And I'm so grateful she was in my group! The only people I had to hang out with for almost five months were the other teachers in our group, and I was so lucky that I was able to create a genuine friendship with a few teachers. Richelle was one of them! Fast forward a lot of years and here we are hanging out again! I was able to get Richelle in for a headshot session to update her pictures while she's on the job hunt. Richelle completed the Tech-Moms program and is looking for an opportunity to use everything she's learned. She's also a single mom and needs to find work ASAP to support her children. I was talking with Carrie H. the other day about how hard single moms work because there is no option except to succeed. Richelle fits this, and I know she will do an amazing job for whoever will allow her to prove how valuable she is!! After our session, Richelle and I were able to chat for a while and catch up on what's happened in our lives over the years. While we've had different experiences, the one we share is becoming single moms and facing the adversity that comes with that. I'm so impressed with Richelle's tenacity, her ability to see the good in really difficult situations, and her willingness to do what it takes to make things happen for her kids and herself!
