The Ability Network (TAN) successfully conducted its conference 'The Ability Dialogues' today in Mumbai at DoCC SPJIMR SP Jain Institute of Management and Research campus, which brought together 60+ passionate individuals from diverse organisations and arenas of disability inclusion. Key highlights included the Experiential Corridor, the release of the research report, an engaging Q&A with disability experts, and small group discussions on TAN’s focus areas. We were honored to have Mr. Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI, as the keynote speaker. Tech Mahindra Foundation reposted this
"Do women make better school leaders than men"? "How do primary grade teachers in govt schools in Delhi perceive the idea of Inclusive Education?" "How does the Van-Hiele model of enhancing geometric understanding among grade 3 children compare with the non-Van-Hiele model"? These were just three of the ten presentations I had the privilege of sitting through today at a #Research Conference in Delhi. And the presenters were none other than a few of my teammates at Tech Mahindra Foundation. They are all a part of our #Shikshaantar program in Delhi, aimed at creating happier classrooms by enhancing capacity of primary grade teachers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi schools. Shikshaantar is among the most important programs that we implement, perhaps 𝘵𝘩𝘦 most important. We have been at it for the last 12 years, working closely with the teachers and leaders of the nearly 1500 schools, in which over 800,000 children take the first steps of their learning journeys. Our teacher-educators not only conduct training workshops with the teachers but also observe their classroom sessions and give constructive feedback, helping them deliver better for their children. And while they do all this, they also conduct basic exploratory research on topics relevant to primary education, attempting to answer intriguing questions in the process. Why do we do this? The answer is simple - if we have to instill a sense of appreciative enquiry among children and nurture their #curiosity, our teachers must be adept at critical thinking. And to help them do so, a spirit of enquiry must always be alive among our teacher-educators. This is one of the ways in which we at TMF strive to become more of a thinking - and thoughtful - organization with each passing day. One question at a time.
