Global Partnerships & Strategy | Digital Inclusion & Innovation

Wrapping up my first trip to India with Team4Tech 🇮🇳 While here, I had the opportunity to work with one of Team4Tech's amazing partners, Ek Tara , on their LMS and digital learning strategy with my colleague Goutham Kumar. Ek Tara serves first-generation learners and women from the most marginalized communities in Kolkata, providing high-quality, holistic education and enabling community-wide transformation. As soon as you walk through the school doors, you are welcomed into a vibrant learning environment filled with colorful artwork created by students and uplifting messages. While I was there, I saw students beginning music class with a guided meditation, girls collaborating on activities in the computer lab and mothers engaged in various skill building opportunities. Working with Ek Tara and seeing their impactful, gender responsive work has left a deep impression on me. So much gratitude for the amazing staff and teachers 👏🏻 #education #girlseducation #digitalskills #socialimpact #genderequity #digitalinclusion

Africa Hub Director @Team4Tech | Tech for Education | Social Impact | WISE Emerging Leader 2023

I'm very proud of these two organisations NairoBits Trust and Kenya Connect, which I have worked with very closely for the past three years. Witnessing the fruit of our labour brings so much warmth to my heart and I commend the 10 students for their resilience, brilliance and bravery in taking on this new challenge! Collaboration is key in the work I do. I'm excited to be building a robust community of education nonprofit organisations in Africa that learn from each other, share best practices, develop evidence in EdTech, and move the needle forward in ensuring that learners have access to quality education, building better employment and economic opportunities. Imagine the courage it takes for young people from a rural town to move to the bustling city of Nairobi to pursue their education. Our Wamunyu students did just that, and we're incredibly proud of their determination and commitment. Out of 20 ambitious students from Wamunyu, 10 have bravely taken the leap to move to the city and join NairoBits’ Advanced Multimedia Program (AMP). In just 21 weeks, these young trailblazers are not only surviving but thriving in this cut-throat, competitive environment. Their courage to pursue digital skills training is a testament to their dreams and the unwavering commitment of their community to support them. Thanks to the unwavering support of their families, Kenya Connect, and our incredible team, these 10 determined students have left their homes to pursue their dreams in the big city. They're learning everything from graphic design to web development, and they're excelling! This started from a 4-year partnership working with Team4Tech to bridge the digital equity gap in education to create inclusion and opportunities for learners in under-resourced communities with the work Kenya Connect team, Sharon Runge, James and Patrick have been doing in Machakos for the past 22 years the team at Team4Tech, Nyagaki Gichia, for sparking this collaboration and to Julie Clugage, for continuously championing the power of technology to empower youth, felt the need to link us up seeing as we had a shared goal and resourceful models. Their courage to pursue digital skills training is a testament to their dreams and the unwavering commitment of their community to support them. We couldn't be prouder of their journey and the bright future they are building! But this is just the beginning. Young people in rural communities are eager to learn, and NairoBits is committed to ensuring access. Our next step is to set up an AMP class in Machakos County, so these aspiring learners don't have to travel far to access the training they deserve. By supporting a learner through sponsorship or donating to NairoBits, you're investing in the future, helping us establish digital centers across the country and provide life-changing opportunities. 💙 Give Today: https://lnkd.in/dnMrc-WJ Paybill: 891300 | Account: GG57651 #25YearsofImpact #WeAreBits #Bits2theWorld #Give2Bits #TechForGood #DigitalEmpowerment #YouthInTech

Innovation, community, impact, and data cheerleader at Team4Tech and partner of fast paced learning and development for the Ai-for-education.org initiative.

A few thoughts after Digital Learning Week at UNESCO 🌍 🤖 The focus on AI in education was prominent throughout the week, as expected. I was encouraged to see a global recognition that AI alone isn't the solution; rather, AI powered by educators and stakeholders committed to quality education for all learners is the true "sweet spot." 🤔 Although the term "implementation" wasn't frequently mentioned, every story, presentation, breakout session, and conversation I participated in was centered around it. We cannot underestimate the value of educators in these discussions about AI in education. They grasp the complexities of an increasingly challenging field and have a crucial voice in ensuring that data sets are not only high quality but also relevant and locally representative. 💻 Discussions around AI competencies for students and teachers were front and center. I appreciated the focus on real-world challenges like resistance to change, connectivity issues, and the development of quality data sets woven throughout these conversations. The challenge now is to determine how we will collectively turn these big ideas and commitments into meaningful experiences and outcomes. ➡️ After last week, one thing is certain: there are incredible people across the globe who are making every effort to get this right. There is still much work to be done, and much of that work is in good hands.

Team4Tech is proudly reflecting on our recent project with Guidewire Software, accelerating the impact of our partner Ek Tara. Ek Tara is working to support girls in Kolkata, India through a holistic education model, providing access to skill-building and high-quality learning experiences Team4Tech engaged 10 Guidewire volunteers in leadership development, human-centered design, and growth mindset training, and connected them with Ek Tara staff to co-design solutions. After eight weeks of virtual collaboration, the volunteer team traveled to Kolkata to implement technology solutions that help make Ek Tara’s work more data-driven. The volunteer team supported Ek Tara with a framework and platform for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and a learning management system (LMS). By embracing data-driven systems and decision-making processes, Ek Tara is poised to deliver improved learning experiences and impact more young women and girls in Kolkata.
