The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is the environmental agency for the state. We have approximately 2,800 employees, located in our central office in Austin and 16 regional offices around Texas. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality strives to protect our state's human and natural resources consistent with sustainable economic development. Our goal is clean air, clean water, and the safe management of waste. Earlier this week, our Border Affairs staff coordinated a meeting of the Binational Salinity Study for the Lower Rio Grande/Rio Bravo in Mercedes, Texas. The study collected data on the salt levels in the Lower Rio Grande and possible causes of increased salt levels in certain areas. The U.S. and Mexico sections of the International Boundary and Water Commission serve as co-chairs of the Binational Technical Group composed of three agencies from each country.
