For the past year, a film crew with John Deere has been working behind the scenes documenting our work as we expanded our capacity to grow food—year-round, hydroponically, inside of a refurbished shipping container. We are deeply thankful to the Deere Foundation, as well as additional partners, the Quad Cities Botanical Center, the City of Rock Island, and Freight Farms, for all of the pieces necessary to make this long-held dream come true. Investment in the Quad-Cities' local food systems builds the resiliency our community so desperately needs. At Tapestry Farms, we're working towards our goal of ensuring that every single last one of us in this community has not just enough to eat, but has easy, affordable access to nutrient-dense food vital for a thriving life. We hope you'll watch the video below to see a powerful, three-minute expression of our mission. We hope it fills you with pride as it highlights what we've achieved together.

Can you help English learning blossom for a refugee family? We're pretty excited to be a part of a six-week summer English learning program for teens and adults, where parents can bring their littles to be cared for while they learn. The Illinois QC has a couple of really wonderful family literacy sites, and now it's the Iowa QC's turn. Transportation is a barrier for many of the families who would like to attend. Today (June 20) is World Refugee Day. The UN first made this designation in 2000 and 24 years later we continue to recognize the strength and courage of those who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. Thank you for supporting the work of Tapestry Farms as we honor the resilience, strength, and courage of refugees from all over the world who have resettled in the Quad Cities. 🌎

One of our favorite partnerships is with the urban farm students at Mid City High School in Davenport. Every time we visit, we are impressed by their agricultural knowledge and environmental thoughtfulness. These students are not just learning about farming, they are growing into compassionate, responsible adults who care about their community and the environment! We are happy to be a part of their journey and to witness their hard work firsthand. We're grateful for not only the tangible help they give, but also for letting us be a part of their own growing process! Together, we're nurturing the future leaders of our community and beyond. 📚 💚 🌻

Market season is upon us! ☀ In addition to our other food distribution channels and partnerships, this year we are proud participants of the QC Farmers Market at Schwiebert Park in Rock Island. We love the people and the values behind this market and are excited to be there most Saturdays mornings, 8-noon, throughout the summer with hydroponically grown greens and produce, Tapestry Farms swag, and more. Stop by and say hello! 🍅 🥒 🥗

We were honored to be able to gather with our community and celebrate the work they make possible. We continue to be humbled by our sponsors, volunteers, supporters, board members, donors ... all the incredible people who make the long and loving welcome of refugees possible in the Quad Cities. Our entire community is better because of people like Laura and our founder/executive director Ann. 💚

It was a gorgeous sunny day to spend outside with Tapestry Farms. Another amazing women leader, Ann McGlynn, is their Executive Director. Ann is a special person that saw a need, and took supporting one refugee family, to now nearly a hundred. She doesn’t just grow culturally relevant food, she’s growing a better community. When it takes a village - it’s Ann who then creates it. If we walk the talk of being inclusive, we should all walk with Ann. #zerohunger #hydroponics #community
