Recognizing the dedication and valuable contributions of one of our long-term team members, Alex Mathew - Sr Software Engineer "It was May 2014, and I thought I knew what I’d do after college. For my first summer internship, I did something that would completely change the trajectory of my life — I went to a startup. For the next year, I was obsessed with startups. Y Combinator sounded fascinating; Paul Graham’s essays went over my head, but I pretended I understood. All of this led to years of working at startups, with a lot of learning, personally and professionally, and with some incredible people who shaped how my career played out. Fast-forward to December 2021. I wanted to switch companies, and as always, the Y Combinator job board was the first place I looked for opportunities. That was when I first came across SwiftSku. And I went past it because “What even is a convenience store?” Luckily for me (in hindsight), they reached out to me, and over the course of my conversations with the team, I realized just how passionate these founders were about this problem. Over my last two and a half years with this team, that has been the biggest constant — Dan and Mit’s passion for the people behind these convenience stores. Enough to turn “What even is a convenience store?” into “What more can we do for them?” I now feel like SwiftSku was the right opportunity for me at the right time. After 6 years of working at startups, this was my opportunity to go back to the ground floor of a startup and see if I could actually apply what I feel I’ve learnt and try to make a difference. These last couple of years have been an adventure - seeing the team grow to what it is now and seeing our customer base and revenue grow a ridiculous multiple is such a fulfilling thing to have been a part of. We also got to feel the growing pains (who wouldn’t), but seeing how we learned and grew will always be a source of confidence that this team can make things work. It is such a joy for me to get to work with some of the best people I’ve ever worked with, learning so much from them and getting so much done with them. After 3 years of working remote and not having met a “colleague”, coming to SwiftSku and getting to be a part of the team offsites have always been a highlight for me, and they feel even more special considering how none of them has ever felt like strangers. You can always feel the energy of everybody rooting for each other, knowing that each person’s win is everybody’s win. Being around such customer-obsessed people in this company is a huge catalyst for growth for me. Knowing that I have a say and that I can make an impact on this team drives me to bring out my best work. I can confidently say that I can see SwiftSku shaping how the next years of my life play out, and I am very excited to see where this road takes us!"
