A coalition of the willing, dedicated to enhancing regional preparedness and response to disaster.
About us
Formally known as the Near and Far Southwest Healthcare Coalitions, the Southwest Virginia Healthcare Coalition (SVHC) exists for one simple reason: to support the healthcare infrastructure of Southwestern Virginia with disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation resources. In other words, we help keep the doors of healthcare open when disaster strikes. Improving healthcare intelligence with real-time situational awareness before, during, and after disaster. The coalition is largely made up of hospital and healthcare leaders who understand the importance of preparedness efforts to their ability to care for patients and conduct business. The coalition’s efforts are funded via a federal grant distributed to the Virginia Department of Health from the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response as part of the Hospital Preparedness Program. VDH contracts with the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association to further distribute those funds to six healthcare coalitions throughout the commonwealth.

For those of you who have had the opportunity to go through a merger, you know how much of a wild ride it is. As we head into the end of our Q3 and continue through the rest of our fiscal year, we want to thank each of you for your continued support. We continue to work with our community partners and support regional efforts to preparedness, like partnering with VHCA-VCAL for their VLIPP grant projects, bringing HICS to the fantastic team CARILION TAZEWELL COMMUNITY HOSPITAL, and partnering with Washington County Dispatch for weekly radio RHCC communications. We exist for one simple reason: to support Southwest, VA, with disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation resources, and we will continue to do so as we grow and evolve as a coalition.

Next month, we get the opportunity to hear from our friends at Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency on two different topics! On Monday, March 11, we will discuss how to leverage critical communication services during an emergency utilizing GETS/WPS technologies in a brief 1-hour webinar! Then, on Thursday, March 14th, we will meet in-person at the Wytheville Meeting Center to discuss healthcare cyber resilience. To learn more about both of these offerings, visit our website below: https://lnkd.in/envBzunJ

Last month, we sent out an information-packed email about our upcoming events for the next few months. Usually, this information would live on our website, but because we are transitioning our website, most of this information has just been shared via email. So, if you are in our region and have not had the chance, please sign up for our Weekly Newsletter (www.nspa1.org/brief) or our Regional Listserv (www.nspa1.org/register) to keep up with what we have going on across the Southwest Virginia Healthcare Coalition region. In the meantime, we were able to update a calendar that houses most of our upcoming events! Thank you all for your patience during this transition, and please let us know if you have any questions! https://lnkd.in/eENdgem5
