A force united by a promise to end breast cancer, funding groundbreaking research, community health & advocacy programs.
About us
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. Two years later, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. For over 40 years, we've led the way funding groundbreaking research, community health initiatives and advocacy programs in local communities across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. And with your help, we’ll continue pushing for progress to end breast cancer every day, until it’s a thing of the past. Jamie and Tami are no strangers to breast cancer. Their biological mother passed away from metastatic breast cancer when she was just 52. They knew their family history put them at a higher risk, but it was still a shock when Tami was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2023. Tami's diagnosis prompted her sister Jamie, who is six years younger, to schedule her overdue mammogram. Just two weeks later, Jamie also learned she had breast cancer. The lives of too many sisters, mothers, grandfathers, aunts and cousins are at stake. Make a donation today to help save lives: komen.org

Brett learned she had breast cancer when her third son was 3 months old. “I was 37 at the time, so I’d never had a mammogram and likely wouldn’t have until I was 40,” Brett said. “I’ve always been healthy, I had no issues with childbirth. Nothing like breast cancer was on my radar.” Read more of Brett's story in our blog: https://bit.ly/3YyOAXq

Komen is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of breast cancer research advocates by enhancing their skills and knowledge. Recently, members of Komen Advocates in Science attended the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Symposium in Chicago, where they gained insights from leading researchers and clinicians. Through sharing their own experiences and perspectives, they’re helping shape research that makes a difference. #BreastCancerResearch #KomenAdvocates #AdvocacyInAction

Often when a person receives a breast cancer diagnosis, well intentioned friends and family may ask a lot of medical questions because they care. However, it is also important for patients to feel seen as themselves rather than feeling defined by their cancer. Tune in to the latest episode of Real Pink to hear Sunny Vidrine talk about her story and how she's focusing on living her life while managing treatments. https://apple.co/2LMAcsi

Today, our organization’s namesake, Susan Goodman Komen, would have turned 81 years old. Suzy died of metastatic breast cancer when she was just 36. Back when Suzy was diagnosed, people would walk in the other direction because breast cancer was thought to be contagious. The disease wasn’t something that was openly talked about. We’ve come a long way since then, thanks to education and support from people like you. Suzy is the reason this organization was born. In Suzy’s honor, and in honor of all of the breast cancer patients and survivors, we will continue fighting until we find the cures. Ending breast cancer needs all of us. https://bit.ly/4fjNHJ1
