A force united by a promise to end breast cancer, funding groundbreaking research, community health & advocacy programs.

About us

In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. Two years later, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. For over 40 years, we've led the way funding groundbreaking research, community health initiatives and advocacy programs in local communities across the U.S. and in more than 30 countries. And with your help, we’ll continue pushing for progress to end breast cancer every day, until it’s a thing of the past. “We are thrilled to hear that Elle Macpherson is doing well and wish her all the best,” said representatives from Komen in this article from Vanity Fair about Macpherson’s decision to forgo additional standard treatments for breast cancer after having a lumpectomy. “Few people with breast cancer are treated with surgery alone. While surgery for early breast cancer removes the breast cancer, other treatments make sure all the cancer is gone and lowers the risk that breast cancer will return,” Komen reps said. “We encourage people to play an active role in making treatment decisions alongside their doctors by understanding their breast cancer diagnosis, their treatment options and possible side effects to find a treatment plan that works best for them.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3TcAt8o

Senior Vice President, Mission at Susan G. Komen

Recently, I was honored to join a podcast with the amazing Gevorg Tamamyan at OncoDaily to discuss several topics close to my heart, including women supporting women in leadership and how my current work helps to ensure that breast cancer patients can access life-saving treatments without the financial burden.   During our discussion, I also shared a look back into my own career journey (25 years went by very, very fast!) and how my experiences have supercharged my passion for global health equity, particularly in the fight against breast cancer at Susan G. Komen. It was the best decision of my (young) life to abandon my law school aspirations and choose a career where I have the honor and privilege to work alongside incredible and inspiring women and men in this mission to help others survive and thrive   My hope is this conversation serves as a call to action to everyone who wants to contribute to making a difference in this world. You’ll hear us explore the significant role that advocacy and policy play in removing financial barriers and prioritizing patient health.   Tune in below, and hear more about how we can make a greater, collective difference together! https://lnkd.in/etP5wqjp

Ellie Palmer found comfort and strength in romance novels during her breast cancer experience because she found that women were embracing self-confidence, self-love and their bodies. Tune in to the latest episode of Real Pink to hear Ellie share how these characters were able to give her the language to discuss her body and what she feared losing most. https://apple.co/2LMAcsi

"I keep fighting, I keep praying," she said, "and I keep my loved ones close," said Gwendolyn, who was initially diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. The cancer later spread to her lymph nodes and lungs, and she learned she had stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer. Your donation today, doubled by Wacoal America, will help fund research into new treatments that could mean a longer life for those like Gwendolyn. https://bit.ly/4g75T9K
