THE CENTER OF IT ALL
About us
The Straz Center began as a dream by visionary citizens of Tampa who persevered to bring to reality one of the finest performing arts centers in the nation. It is many things to many people and it’s more than just a building, more than just a performing arts center. It is a presenter, a producer, an educator, a community partner and an economic engine for the Tampa Bay area. It is a cornerstone of the Tampa Bay community. The Straz Center creates a regional economic impact of more than $100 million each year. To our local economy it can mean more tourists staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, shopping in stores and visiting other venues when they are here. At both the local and national level, it provides access to more than 700,000 people of all ages, abilities and cultures each year. It also provides jobs for artists and other professionals who have a passion for the arts and for our mission.

Happy National Arts in Education Week! Arts education has been a vital part of our mission since The Straz opened in 1987. Now, approximately 54,000 students per year are impacted by our Arts Education Program! And, with the support of our donors and sponsors, we are able to give away over $300,000 in scholarships each year to students at the Patel Conservatory. Thank you to everyone who makes this part of our mission possible. We are honored and grateful to provide arts education opportunities in Tampa Bay.

ICYMI: We are thrilled to announce that actor, comedian and writer Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury, Fanboys, The Walking Dead, the Fantastic Beasts franchise, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) will lead the cast of THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN during the first three weeks of the Tampa run of this world premiere production! Based on Executive Producer of the Batman films, Michael Uslan's memoir of the same title, THE BOY WHO LOVED BATMAN is an inspirational comedy about one man’s vision that became a national phenomenon. It’s a crazy journey that goes from New Jersey to Hollywood, comic books to the silver screen. Every hero needs a hero.

Several factors influenced Matthew Wolf’s decision to join the Straz as its new Chief Operating Officer. There’s the Straz’s reputation as both an entertainment and an educational facility, the city of Tampa itself - expanding economically and culturally - and the opportunity to wear shorts in November. #fromtheblog
