Earlier this week, we hosted an event to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped advance the Day Hospital Program to where it is today. A special thanks to Senator Peggy Rotundo, Representative Margaret Craven and all supporting legislative and community members for their unwavering support. Our team provided an overview of the Day Hospital Program and gave a tour of the space that will soon be renovated to house this critical service. For over 135 years, St. Mary's has been dedicated to serving our community, and this new program will help us bridge significant gaps in the continuum of care for the three counties relying on Lewiston-centered behavioral health services. The Day Hospital Program will offer intensive care for those experiencing acute symptoms while allowing patients to stay connected with family, friends and community supports during treatment. We're excited to begin hiring this fall with a target opening of January 2025. Thank you to everyone who has tirelessly worked to expand behavioral health services for the Lewiston-Auburn community!

At St. Mary's, we understand the vital role primary care plays in maintaining the health and well-being of our community. In response to the growing need for primary care services, we are launching several new initiatives aimed at enhancing and expanding our primary care capabilities. Our goal is to ensure that every member of our community has access to the care they need, when they need it. Here are some of the key steps we're taking: • Embedding nurse practitioners in our primary care practices to provide mental and behavioral health services to patients, enhancing both accessibility and acceptance of care. • Creating new models of care, including a hybrid offering that pairs a remote virtual primary care provider with an in-person advanced practice provider. • Exploring and investing in AI technology to streamline record-keeping, accelerating charting and paperwork to maximize provider time with patients and reduce administrative time. • Supporting the development and training of advance practice providers as autonomous providers in primary care. • Expanding recruitment efforts to connect with a wider network of potential candidates outside of Maine. • Evaluating access to pharmacist-led medication management services. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to innovate and improve!
