James Tischler, FAICP, MCIP-I, Development Director at SLBA, continues to support and educate colleagues, developers and State and municipality staff on the benefits of utilizing Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to create affordable housing in Michigan. "Tischler says this new legislation provides the Land Bank community with further leverage to use or reuse land bank properties to produce attainable, affordable housing and mixed-income housing to benefit renters, owners, and communities." The State Land Bank Authority is pleased to note the importance of today in the history of Michigan land banks. Twenty years ago today - January 5, 2004 - the state's legislation to form the State Land Bank became effective. Join us over the next 12 months as we celebrate the accomplishments of local land banks statewide that have impacted their communities over the past 20 years. Here is a message from our Joseph Rivet, our Executive Director: "I am delighted to share a momentous milestone with you - the celebration of 20 years of dedicated efforts in land banking in Michigan. Reflecting on this remarkable journey, it fills me with immense pride to be a part of the tremendous impact we've had on communities and neighborhoods throughout the state. Over the past two decades, our organization has been at the forefront of innovative land banking strategies, fostering the development of properties, promoting and supporting land bank operations and transforming blighted structures into vibrant assets that contribute to the revitalization of our communities. Your unwavering support, commitment and collaboration has been instrumental to these efforts. Thank you for being an integral part of our continued success. The Michigan Association of Land Banks is currently seeking a part time Executive Director. The Michigan Association of Land Banks is the voice of land banks statewide and sponsors an annual leadership summit.

We continue to host weekly Virtual Office Hours for participants in our Blight Elimination Program. The last one of this year will be December 20st, and then we will resume January 3, 2024. We are available every Wednesday at 11 am to answer questions, offer resources and problem solve. Many participants report the calls to be helpful and a great resource to find answers both from SLBA staff and from each other. The State Land Bank Authority staff hosts weekly virtual office hours for grantees and folks interested in submitting proposals for the Blight Elimination Program Round 4 grants. We are pleased to partner with Habitat For Humanity of Ionia County to make available commemorative bricks from the former Riverside Correctional Facility. Bricks are available for a $20 donation at the HFHIC's ReStore building located at 113 S. Depot Street, Ionia. A quick shout out to our demolition contractor Pitsch Companies for preserving these bricks for this project!

BREAKING NEWS: The State Land Bank Authority has just released the newest Request for Proposals for Round 4 of the Blight Elimination Program. Located on the new website page, the Request for Proposals is now available for review. Proposals are due by December 8, 2023 and awards will be announced in February, 2024. You will find other resources on this new page related to the blight elimination program. Check often for updated information as we get this page completed.

The State Land Bank Authority is pleased to announce the release of our Notice of Intent (NOI) to Solicit Development proposals for properties in Ionia, Michigan. In anticipation of our release, we are encouraging all potential developers to respond as soon as possible to our Request for Qualifications RFQ #21-001, as amended January 24, 2022.
