The highly anticipated Sarasota Orchestra Music Center is already creating waves of excitement. Working with executive architects for the project, HKS, Inc., the Orchestra's President and CEO Joseph McKenna announced that the orchestra’s building committee has been studying proposals from more than a dozen firms that might be chosen as the design architect. "One orchestra's first steps was hiring a company called Stages Consultants, founded by acoustician Damian Doria and theater planner Alec Stoll, ASTC Stoll. They have worked on such projects as the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando, the Arsht Center in Miami, the Harpa concert hall in Rekyjavik, Iceland, and the Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa, California." Stages has been involved in this project since the beginning, working with the Sarasota Orchestra to help fulfill their needs, evaluate their facility and site options, and ensure every note, nuance, and harmony is perfectly heard. We’re thrilled to see the Orchestra’s dream taking shape! #StagesConsultants #SarasotaOrchestra #MusicCenter #PerformingArts #ArchitecturalExcellence #CommunityEngagement

As we celebrate Classical Music Month, it's hard not to start with Rachmaninov (or Rachmaninoff) who had a remarkable 150th anniversary in 2023. "Symphonic Dances" (both chamber and orchestral versions) was the most-performed concert work around the world. (His Piano Concertos No. 2 and No. 3 also ranked high for his anniversary year.) #ClassicalMusicMonth #Рахманинов

📢 How the World’s Largest Timber Arch Roof Solves Acoustic Puzzle! 🚧The new PNE Amphitheatre in Vancouver is set to make waves for its stunning architecture and innovative acoustic design. The world’s longest timber arch structure will dramatically enhance the sound experience while minimising disruption to residents. 📝 According to the City of Vancouver report, this groundbreaking 105-metre roof will feature a starburst design that effectively blocks and redirects sound towards the audience. Stages Consultants | Theatre Planning and Acoustics Design a leading acoustics design firm, highlights that the timber roof is crucial in focusing noise, significantly reducing its spread into surrounding neighbourhoods. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Acoustic Efficiency: The unique shape and size of the roof will direct sound towards the audience, reducing the need for excessive amplification and creating a more pleasant listening experience. This is a game-changer for outdoor venues that often struggle with sound management. 2️⃣ Community Consideration: Previous complaints originated from as far away as six kilometres from the old roofless amphitheatre, so the new design promises improved peace for nearby residents. Sound level monitoring will ensure compliance with regulatory limits, establishing a harmonious relationship between the venue and the community. 3️⃣ Innovative Design: By reimagining traditional concrete shells with a mass timber approach, the PNE Amphitheatre sets a precedent for future constructions. Combining glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT) enhances strength, stability, and acoustic performance while being weather-resilient and fire-safe. 🔨 As the PNE Amphitheatre prepares to open in 2026, it stands as a testament to how innovative design can solve complex problems in urban environments. 🔗 To learn more about this exciting project and its unique timber roof, read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gXBW3jkQ 🗣️ #questionforgroup: How can architectural innovations like the PNE Amphitheatre influence future designs in urban settings? What other challenges can mass timber solutions address in construction? Happy South Carolina Day! Today, we celebrate South Carolina’s rich cultural heritage and the incredible work of team members at Stages in the Palmetto State: During his first year, our newest consultant, Eli Thomas, was Resident Assistant Lighting Designer for the Spoleto Festival USA at the The Charleston Gaillard Center. Working with Tony Award-winning Lighting Designer Christopher Akerlind, Eli contributed to the design of Samuel Barber's “Vanessa.” Years before Eli's tenure, Stages' Adam T. Huggard led the renovation of the Gaillard Center’s municipal auditorium while at FDA. Along with David M. Schwarz Architects and ESa, Adam’s work helped transform the venue into a multi-purpose space that hosts everything from Broadway shows to ballet, opera and symphonic performances. This project helped revitalize the center and provided a new home for local arts organizations, enhancing Charleston's cultural landscape. 📷 : 1. "Vanessa" Spoleto Festival USA; 2. & 3. What a wonderful way to head into the long weekend! Ahead of World Skyscraper Day next week, (yes, that’s real), Dezeen has invited readers to vote for their favorite skyscraper from the past year. We’re probably biased, but One High Line in New York City gets our vote. It’s designed by BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group and is home to the new FAENA New York. Stages Consultants is proud to once again work with Faena, providing audio-visual design for the cellar through the second floor, which includes spa and kitchen areas, the Supper Club, the Living Room, the Secreto Bar, and all public areas. This crew! They go backstage at cultural landmarks for fun - on their time off.
Recently, my friend Van Wei invited me, Elijah Thomas, Jordan Rodriguez, Liz Shekhterman-Baklar, and @Andrew Buchanan for a backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera. A recent MFA grad of University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Van is working on the Met’s Automation team with several other Pickles, including Alex Panek, Head of Automation, who greenlit our visit! The tour included the original 1960s drive patch panel and control station, the array of house motors and automation hoists on both gridirons, and a visit to the newly constructed Drive Rack Room built on the roof of the fly tower, where we got a great view of the city! To get up there, we packed into the backstage elevator like sardines! I can’t take credit for the success of the students who take my Revit course at UNCSA, but I can be super proud of what they’re all doing! I’m so grateful to be a part of the Pickle Network and to get to know and work alongside these fantastic folks!
