St. Francis Medical Center was proud to honor 176 employees who have devoted 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of service to our hospital and community at our 2024 Service Awards breakfast. Brother Richard Hirbe opened the celebration with a prayer of thanks for the employees who have continued to follow the healthcare calling of their hearts. CEO Clay Farell spoke of the many changes St. Francis has experienced in the span of nearly eight decades, but noted what has been the significant constant - The commitment of its staff, which is core to the hospital's staying power and legacy. CNO Marilou Salao paid tribute to our honorees' embodiment of our current theme, "Caring Hearts, Caring Hands." It is her wish that these dedicated employees continue to feel joy in the work they do and the lives they touch. Department leaders served honorees a full course breakfast buffet and also came forward to announce the names and years of service of the awardees in their units. Honorees received certificates and service award lapel pins which they can proudly wear to work each day. We are grateful to all of our honorees who have chosen fulfilling careers at St. Francis and whose service and spirit inspire the quality, compassionate care we are committed to delivering to our patients every day.

Nancy from our Lab celebrated her 1st anniversary at St. Francis Medical Center this month. When she learned that we are also celebrating an anniversary -- our 4th year as a member of Prime Healthcare -- she wanted to share a message of thanks for being a part of our St. Francis Family. Happy Anniversary, Nancy!

We are excited to celebrate our 4th-year anniversary as a member of Prime Healthcare. This landmark date is a dual milestone for our hospital. First, we celebrate our 79-year legacy of compassionate, quality care and service to the community. Second, we celebrate a year of achievements, from new investments to new labor agreements to new awards for patient safety and clinical excellence! Throughout the year, we are gratified to note the individual wins to which we contribute through our care – a teen able to return to playing her favorite sport after a devastating car accident, a newborn going home strong and healthy to mom and dad after a month in our NICU, a grandfather capable of clearly saying "I love you" to his grandchildren when a stroke threatened his ability to speak. What we sometimes overlook is that these day-to-day successes become year-over-year triumphs for our patients and their families. This is underscored by a phone message we recently received. In a voice a bit shaky and weak with age, a gentleman named Alexander shared that he was a roofer by trade. Years ago while on the job, he fell off a roof. He was only 22 years old, and he was badly injured. He was brought to St. Francis for care. Fifty-four years have since passed, and with a heart filled with gratitude, he called to say thank you to all of the staff at St. Francis Medical Center – thank you for saving his life and for giving him the chance to live to 76 years old. As Alexander's call highlighted, our legacy of care runs parallel to the longevity of the many lives saved and well-lived; and our four-year anniversary as a member of Prime is a testament that our legacy lives on! Our St. Francis Family is here for you and your family, now and into the future.

Our Mission Matters - While shopping for school backpacks for her grandchildren this week, a woman recalled that the very first backpack her daughter used for school was the one she received at a St. Francis Medical Center health fair 16 years ago. St. Francis filled it with school supplies, and her family was so appreciative. In this same spirit, the woman returned to our hospital yesterday. With her she brought four new backpacks brimming with spiral notebooks, paper, composition books, crayons, markers, erasers, and fun stickers. She said she never forgot how much that first backpack meant to her daughter and family, and she asked that we give these backpacks to new families who might need a little extra help as the school year begins. Here's a snapshot from our health fair years ago, and a photo of one of the abundantly-filled backpacks gifted to us. Thank you for your kindness and generosity and for carrying our mission forward. We are grateful for our community!
