Helping Others. Changing Lives.

About us

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis in the greater Green Bay, Wis. area. It is this personalized involvement that makes the work of the Society unique. This aid may take the form of intervention, consultation, or often through direct dollar or in-kind service. An essential precept of the Society's work is to provide help while conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. The Society recognizes that it must assume, also, a role of advocacy for those who are defenseless or voiceless. Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, or "Vincentians," are men and women who strive to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to individuals in need. We are young and old. Our members come from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Some of us are wealthy, some are financially poor, but all of us are blessed with an awareness that our blessings are to be shared with our brothers and sisters in need. Along with our three thrift stores in Green Bay, we have a Personal Service Center where those with varying needs can come to find help. We also offer workshops and programs that educate and help lift up the impoverished. Anyone who wants to help our efforts should join our Bridges out of Poverty workshops. This is an opportunity to receive essential, relevant knowledge to give unbiased and effective support to individuals who are experiencing poverty and are trying to move toward stability. For those who are looking to prepare themselves for the workforce and family life, join our Getting Ahead workshop. Join trained facilitators and a group of your peers for a 16-20 week, kitchen-table style workshop. Discover how you can take control of your life. You'll get a workbook, supplies, family meals, a monetary stipend and a mentor to walk beside you. To register for our next workshop: Call: 920-617-5475 Email: [email protected]

  • In 2023, we gave $257,650 in thrift store vouchers to help our neighbors in need in Brown County. Thrift store vouchers allow folks to get necessary items, like clothing, for free from our thrift stores. Often, the people we help through our voucher programs have just moved into the area or have recently gone out on their own again. We help individuals and families get back on their feet, and these vouchers offer one less thing to stress about when balancing necessities and the cost of living. #Impact #Thrift

  • When checking out at our thrift stores, you may have heard our cashiers ask if you want to round up your purchase to the nearest dollar. But what are those dollars doing? When you round up your purchase, you provide funding to meet the basic needs of those we serve at St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay. Your dollars provide: 👚 Clothing and home goods vouchers for families getting on their feet 🚌 Transportation via bus passes or gas cards for those who need a way to get to work 🏡 Rental assistance to keep families in their homes and prevent homelessness in our community Rounding up your purchase makes a direct positive impact on Green Bay by allowing us to continue the work we do. Thank you for helping us help others and change lives! #ThriftStores #StVincentdePaul #Outreach

  • Today is both #NationalThriftStoreDay and #NationalNonprofitDay - so it's the perfect day to share more about what we do here at St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay. You may know us best for our thrift stores, which we have four of in the Green Bay area. They are a great resource to our community, offering an affordable alternative for retail shopping. But we are more than just our thrift stores. Through our dedicated Vincentians and volunteers, thrift store revenue, and passion for giving back, we help those in our community facing hardship. We provide resources like clothing and furniture vouchers to use in our stores, rent or utility assistance, and transportation support through bus passes and gas cards. All of these resources are getting more difficult to come by for those struggling as the cost of living increases. Through providing these resources and visiting with our neighbors in need, we aim to understand, fully hear, and address the hardships they face. Our Vincentians come from churches throughout the Green Bay Area and seek to see and be the face of Christ as they serve their neighbors. While our organization is a Catholic lay organization, we help everyone in our community regardless of religious affiliation or belief. We simply aim to grow in holiness and build a more just world through building relationships and offering service to people in need.

  • “It’s difficult, but rewarding work.” Meet Larry, a dedicated Vincentian volunteer who has been supporting Green Bay neighbors in need for over two decades. The day after his retirement in 2004, he was already devoting his time to volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay. In our Resource Center, Larry plays a crucial role in assisting those seeking help—70% of whom are experiencing homelessness. Larry observes that the challenges of homelessness and the shortage of affordable housing in Green Bay have intensified over the past two years, underscoring the importance of our work. Through the Resource Center, Larry assists with providing essential items like gas cards, clothing vouchers, bus passes, and more. Last month, he supplied hygiene items and clothing vouchers to a family of six living in their car. Larry highlights that “the most important thing we do in the Resource Center is listen to their story.” The Society of St. Vincent de Paul focuses on addressing the needs of the homeless and ensuring that individuals facing hardship are truly heard. Larry has dedicated over 12,800 hours to the Resource Center alone, in addition to his work with home visits and other SVdP programs. His commitment to listening to the stories of neighbors in need and improving the support provided exemplifies the spirit of Vincentian service. Without Vincentians like Larry, the work of St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay would not be possible.
