St. Lawrence Health (SLH) was established in December 2013 with the mission to improve health and to expand access through coordination and integration of services. Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam; Gouverneur Hospital, Gouverneur; and Massena Hospital, Massena, operate under the umbrella of St. Lawrence Health. SLH became an affiliate of Rochester Regional Health (RRH) in January 2021. RRH is an internationally recognized integrated health services organization, and its industry distinctions include year-after-year Healthgrades awards, America’s 50 Best Hospitals™, multiple Magnet® Awards for nursing excellence, and the greatest number of Beacon Awards for Excellence of any hospital system in the nation. Canton-Potsdam Hospital (CPH) is a not-for-profit community hospital certified for 94 beds. Its core programs in emergency medicine, acute care, hospitalist medicine, critical care, and a Level III Trauma Center are supplemented by outpatient health services in Brasher Falls, Canton, Colton, Massena, Norfolk, Norwood, and Potsdam, NY. CPH offers specialty care in over 35 different specialties, including a robust orthopedic surgery and sports medicine program, and the Center for Cancer Care. Gouverneur Hospital, located in its namesake city in Northern New York, is a not-for-profit critical access hospital founded in 2013 and certified for 25 beds. Services include inpatient detox, substance use disorder rehabilitation, behavioral health services, emergency care, imaging and EKGs, physical rehabilitation, and respiratory therapy. Massena Hospital is a 25-bed community hospital providing inpatient, medical, and surgical services in addition to emergency care. MH’s main campus also provides imaging and laboratory services, nutritional counseling, respiratory care, and inpatient physical and speech therapies. cardiology, infusion, nephrology, neurology, OB-GYN and women’s health, pediatrics, and primary care.

Nurse Practitioner Phillip Cicco has joined the Emergency Medicine team at Gouverneur Hospital. NP Cicco earned his Master of Science degree as a Family Practice Nurse Practioner from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY; where he also received his board certification as a Registered Nurse (RN), and was a cum laude graduate. NP Cicco comes to St. Lawrence Health with experience as an Emergency Services NP, Clinical Preceptor, and Medical-Surgical Unit RN. “I am truly excited to become a part of the North Country community, while representing the St. Lawrence Health medical team at Gouverneur Hospital,” he said. “I welcome new challenges and embrace change. My dedicated commitment and true passion for emergency medicine aligns with the SLH Mission Statement that speaks of providing skilled and compassionate care to promote community wellness,” NP Cicco added. “My goal is clear; leave this world better off from when I entered it.”As an Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner, Mr. Cicco provides critical care to patients who present at the Emergency Department by diagnosing and treating their acute symptoms. St. Lawrence Health was established in December 2013 with the mission to improve health and expand access to care through the coordination and integration of services. Already a member of St. Lawrence, Canton-Potsdam Hospital welcomed Gouverneur Hospital (formerly known as EJ Noble Hospital) into the systemized umbrella of care in 2013. Seven years later, in January of 2020, Massena Hospital was created and joined St. Lawrence Health; which replaced former Massena Memorial Hospital. Most recently, in January 2021, the whole of St. Lawrence entered into its formal affiliation with Rochester Regional Health. From launching the world renowned Care Connect electronic medical records system to virtual urgent care, to the creation of the Regional Care Pavilion, the affiliation has evolved in a profound way. As Rochester Regional continues to expand its integration into the St. Lawrence and Northern NY regions, St. Lawrence is proud to continue bringing advanced health care options to its local communities and neighbors.
