A New Record: 19 Humans in Space 🚀 Last week, a new record was set for the most people in space simultaneously: 19 astronauts, cosmonauts, and taikonauts. This surpasses the previous record of 17, set in 2023. 👨🚀 The milestone came with the launch of a Soyuz spacecraft, bringing three crew members to the ISS. They joined nine others already aboard, including the Expedition 71 crew and astronauts from the Starliner mission, which has been docked since June. 🌌 In addition, three taikonauts aboard China's Tiangong station and four private astronauts from the Polaris Dawn mission contributed to this historic moment. This achievement highlights the expanding human presence in space as both international collaborations and private missions grow. Polaris Dawn: Record-Breaking 5-Day Mission Concludes Successfully 🚀 Polaris Dawn has completed a historic 5-day mission, achieving multiple milestones in space exploration. Launched on September 10 from Kennedy Space Center, the mission set a new altitude record for a crewed spacecraft, reaching 1,408.7 km, the highest since the Apollo missions. It also featured the first-ever spacewalk by private astronauts, led by commander Jared Isaacman and SpaceX’s Sarah Gillis, who became the youngest person to perform a spacewalk at 30 years old. 🌍 The mission, part of the Polaris Program, is focused on advancing human space presence through cutting-edge technology and research on long-duration space missions. The team, which included pilot Scott "Kidd" Poteet and mission specialists Gillis and Anna Menon, conducted 36 experiments in partnership with NASA, SpaceX, and other institutions. These included testing human physiology in space and laser communications using SpaceX’s Starlink satellites. 🎶 In a unique moment, Sarah Gillis performed the first concert between space and Earth, playing Star Wars music alongside six international orchestras to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. 🌊 The mission concluded with a successful splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico on September 15. The crew, smiling and celebrating, safely returned after a groundbreaking journey. 🌕 Water on the Moon? It’s possible by melting Lunar Soil 🚀 In a groundbreaking study, Chinese researchers have discovered a way to extract water from the Moon's surface by melting lunar soil, or regolith, at temperatures above 1100°C. This incredible finding comes from an analysis of samples brought back to Earth by China’s Chang'e 5 mission in 2020. 💧 The research suggests that by heating just one ton of lunar regolith, it’s possible to produce over 50 kg of water. This water could be vital for sustaining future human bases on the Moon, serving not only for drinking but also for growing plants in greenhouses and even producing oxygen for breathing and hydrogen for energy via electrolysis. 🌞 The high temperatures required for this process might be achieved using mirrors to concentrate sunlight, making the Moon’s harsh environment a potential resource hub for future space missions. 🔬 The key to this process lies in the regolith's minerals, particularly ilmenite (FeTiO3), which contains hydrogen that has been implanted by solar winds. When heated, this hydrogen reacts with the iron oxides in the regolith to form water and free iron. Alongside water production, this process also yields iron, which could be used as a construction material for lunar bases. ⚙️ While this breakthrough opens new doors for lunar exploration, significant engineering challenges remain, such as efficiently extracting water from the microscopic bubbles formed during the heating process. However, this research offers a promising step toward making long-term human presence on the Moon a reality. #SpaceEconomyMaster #SpaceEconomy #NewSpace #NewSpaceEconomy #SpaceEconomyInstitute #Space

🚀 Geespace, the satellite technology arm of Chinese automaker Geely, is steadily expanding its "Geely Future Mobility Constellation" with the recent launch of 10 more satellites into low Earth orbit (LEO). Known as Geesatcom, this growing constellation aims to provide advanced global connectivity, making it the first Chinese commercial aerospace company to offer satellite communication services on a global scale. 🌍 The latest batch of satellites, launched from the Taiyuan Cosmodrome, brings the constellation to a total of 30 satellites, covering 90% of the globe with 24-hour communication services. With its initial satellite launches in 2022 and early 2024, Geespace is working toward an ambitious goal: a constellation of 72 satellites by the end of 2025, aiming to serve over 200 million users worldwide. 📡 But Geespace isn’t stopping there. In its next phases, it plans to add 264 satellites dedicated to mobile communication, followed by a staggering 5,676 satellites to deliver high-speed broadband services. While this may still be far from the 5,500 satellites of Elon Musk’s Starlink, Geespace is making notable strides as a serious player in the global space economy. 🌐 Geespace has already begun delivering on its promise of global services. In 2023, it partnered with Malaysian telecom operator Altel to offer satellite solutions in Southeast Asia. And in mid-2024, it completed its first international deployment test in Oman with Azyan Telecom, marking its entry into the Middle East and African markets. The space race is evolving, and Geespace's vision for global satellite communication is rapidly taking shape. Keep an eye on this rising contender in the ever-growing space economy. #SpaceEconomyMaster #SpaceEconomy #NewSpace #NewSpaceEconomy #SpaceEconomyInstitute #Space

🚀 NASA's Europa Clipper mission has been officially cleared for its October 2024 launch, after passing a critical review despite technical challenges. Announced on September 9 during a NASA teleconference, the mission will proceed with final preparations and launch aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Kennedy Space Center’s historic pad 39A. 🌍 Europa Clipper is destined to explore Jupiter’s moon Europa, a prime candidate for harboring life due to its suspected subsurface ocean. After a 6-year journey, the spacecraft is expected to enter Jupiter’s orbit in April 2030, where it will conduct a detailed study of Europa over the course of 4 years. ⚙️ The mission faced delays due to issues with its onboard transistors, potentially vulnerable to Jupiter's intense radiation. After extensive testing, NASA confirmed that the components will support the mission’s baseline objectives, allowing it to move forward. 🔭 Once in orbit, Europa Clipper will perform 50 close flybys of Europa, coming within 25 km of the surface to gather high-resolution data and map nearly the entire moon. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated mission and follow us for the latest on space exploration and the economy behind it. #SpaceEconomyMaster #SpaceEconomy #NewSpace #NewSpaceEconomy #SpaceEconomyInstitute #Space
