At this year’s Illinois State Fair, at their climate action tent, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) showcased their Climate Action Plan, and educated fair visitors on what they can do to live more sustainably at home. Visitors were able to tour an electric vehicle, explore a display of solar panels, create “slime” from compostable packing peanuts, enjoy a rain barrel display, and learned about water runoff from a Wildlife Friendly Development exhibit. We at SEDAC are already looking forward to visiting this space again in 2025!

Smart Energy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) is an applied research program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. SEDAC is a public-private partnership that operates in collaboration with the 360 Energy Group along with other energy entities across the state like the Energy Resources Center at the University of Illinois at Chicago. SEDAC provides advice and analysis to public sector facilities to achieve energy efficiency savings and reduce the Illinois energy footprint.

SEDAC is searching for a Visiting Net Zero & Sustainability Research Coordinator to work with SEDAC and IDNR to develop and implement the IDNR Climate Action Plan (CAP) strategies and engage IDNR staff, stakeholders, and organizations throughout the state. The coordinator will provide strategic guidance and coordination on IDNR CAP implementation with two primary tasks: 1) guiding implementation of climate strategies in collaboration with other IDNR staff and 2) coordinating engagement and education related to the CAP.
