🌟 Celebrating National Parks Founders Day with Spartan Pride! 🌲🏞️ Today,we're spotlighting the incredible work of Rebecca Au, a proud SJSU alumna whose journey from San José State to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area has been one of passion, community and service. Rebecca shares how her time at SJSU shaped her career and deepened her connection to the community: "The work that I do at the National Park Service is in service of others and the time that I spent at SJSU allowed me to feel a sense of pride in my local community, which blossomed into becoming a more civically engaged citizen. I was raised in San José, and going to university there has helped me deepen lifelong connections. I became best friends with classmates and some of my professors—I met so many incredible people at SJSU. As the parkwide internship and volunteer program coordinator working at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, I feel proud to be working at a park site that I grew up visiting all my life. I have a personal history with this place, and that has helped me connect to the amazing people who choose to give back their time here." Rebecca’s story is a testament to the power of education and the lasting impact of community. We're especially proud to highlight our SJSU alumni who play a vital role in safeguarding and sharing the beauty of these parks with the world. One such alumna is Alison Leonard, '11 MLIS: "I love working at Acadia National Park as a park ranger in Maine. San José State University helped prepare me for this position by teaching me research skills while I earned my master's in library and information science. Research skills are an important skill for park rangers because you research and write the programs you deliver to the public."
