About us
SJCS is different from other agencies. We decided in the 1990s to tear down the walls and provide services for people with disabilities where they can learn and grow the best–right in their own communities. Our person-centered supports meets the unique needs of each individual who comes through our doors, helping them to achieve all of their goals and dreams. We are committed to self-direction, full citizenship, advocacy and equal rights for people living with disabilities and individuals and families experiencing homelessness. SJCS has driven social change for more than 150 years through the development of litigation, legislation, training, technical assistance as well as through direct services. Based in Washington, D.C., SJCS provides support and services to vulnerable people in New York, Virginia, D.C., Tennessee and Delaware.

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Glidance Inc's demo day, where attendees learned how Glide, a mobility aid that helps people who are blind or have low vision, can help them safely navigate their communities. At SJCS, we're committed to investing in innovative solutions like Glide that empower people living with disabilities to live as independently as possible. Thank you to everyone who attended and to Glidance for your partnership!
