Labor Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of the U.S. worker. Environmentalists and working people can join together to build an economy that works for all of us—and our planet. In fact, doing so might be our best hope of overcoming the entrenched power of the megacorporations that suck workers and the planet dry.
About us
At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it. Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees. Please view www.sierraclub.org/careers/ for more information.

Conservation groups were initially thrilled when President Biden announced plans to protect mature and old-growth forests. But it looks like forest managers are trying to use this as an opportunity to give themselves carte blanche to log whenever and wherever they want, even in stands of old-growth. Now, the groups are urging their supporters to urge the @u.s.forestservice to create a rule that provides the strongest protections possible before the public comment period ends in September https://bit.ly/3AGdJa9 ✍️ Lindsey Botts 📸 Zack Porter

"In the decades since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the shipping of US jobs overseas has helped destroy towns and cities across America," Ben Jealous, the Sierra Club executive director, writes in his latest column. "Now, the IRA is fueling a manufacturing rebirth that is creating good-paying jobs while bringing our energy economy into the 21st century." Earlier this month, activists protested outside Citigroup's NYC headquarters, calling out the bank for being a main funder of new fossil fuel projects worldwide despite its stated sustainability goals of decarbonizing. Throughout the summer, similar rallies have also addressed weapons manufacturing, oil and gas projects in the Gulf South, and operations in Israel.
