A recent study reported that 45% (10 of 22 patients) of patients treated surgically for post-operative dislocation after RSA with a leading on-lay system had polyethylene disassociation from the humeral tray. The authors went on to suggest that dislocation with and on-lay system was a risk factor for polyethylene disassociation and that polyethylene disassociation was an impediment to a successful closed reduction, recommending that “the surgeon have a high suspicion for polyethene disassociation and proceed with advanced imaging or additional radiographic views prior to an attempt to closed reduction”1.
