Only one-third of the US Coast Guard fleet is considered large enough to launch and land, legacy, long-range reconnaissance aircraft. Aircraft like VBAT, with their ability to launch and land from tight spaces, could soon enable all 169 US Coast Guard Cutters and Patrol boats to carry their own long range reconnaissance capabilities. https://lnkd.in/guk2JkKM

This is what move or die looks like on the modern battlefield. Launch move. Recover move. Launch Move. Recover Move. Repeat. Watch your electronic signature. Stop Die. What was once Group 4 and Group 5 capability and required a giant airbase, fits in the back of your buddy's mid-size SUV and can takeoff and land from a clearing the size of a small bathroom. Now you can just pull over somewhere, send up a VBAT for some long range reconnaissance and strike, and GTFO before anyone knows you're there. Pictured: Soldiers recovered this VBAT, tossed it in the back of a Land Rover, and got the f#$k out, because stop... This is war today. This is war in the future.

Today is Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance 🇺🇸. On this day, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We honor the lives lost and the courage of first responders who risked everything to save others. As we reflect on this day, let us reaffirm our dedication to protecting our nation and supporting one another. Together, we will never forget. #NeverForget #911Memorial

Countdown to AFA Air, Space & Cyber 2024! Join us in one week at the Air & Space Forces Association Air, Space & Cyber Conference at Booth 323. Plus, don’t miss Shield AI's Mike Benitez on the panel "Live, Virtual and Constructive: Preparing for the High-End Fight,” on Monday, Sept 16 at 1:40 PM. This year, Shield AI has made significant advances, from our work under Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) ACE program, where our AI flew the SECAF in an F-16, to conducting autonomous multi-jet flights on Kratos Defense and Security Solutions Firejets, and more. In the next decade, we envision AI commanding all unmanned systems, deploying millions of intelligent, resilient drones to bring autonomy to the world. We're eager to support the Air Force in achieving this vision and look forward to sharing our latest achievements with Air Force leaders and partners next week. See you there! Autonomy for the world. The greatest victory requires no war. #AirForce #ASC24 #aviation #innovativeAF #AI #jetaircraft #defensetechnology

My brother was a SEAL, I was an engineer, and we started Shield AI to protect service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Our first objective was to build an AI-powered quadcopter to clear buildings of threats—the mission my brother and his teammates often executed, and the mission that killed more service members and civilians than any other in the preceding twenty years. Strong technical foundations only go so far; Brandon knew I needed a better understanding of the problem to contribute effectively. So, he and a few of his teammates gave me a crash course in building clearance. After bumbling through a day of mistimed movements, wrong turns, and muzzle violations, I left with intense gratitude for the service of my brother, his teammates, and all service members who put themselves in harm’s way. Even in a threatless environment, the feeling of vulnerability as I rounded each corner was immense. “This is completely crazy; I can’t believe you guys do this,” I said. “We just need to be faster and better than the other guys,” he replied. Wearing armor oversized for my frame, I asked, “Is this the right size? I think it’s too small.” “It protects what matters,” he told me, “except your crotch.” Shield AI's AI piloted quadcopter, Nova, was delivered three years later in 2018 and became the first AI piloted aircraft used in combat. I never got good at room clearing. Picture: Me, clueless, trying to look cool, 2015. cc Brandon Tseng

Combined Task Force (CTF) V-BAT is at it again this week — and on three continents! We're at the Egypt Airshow (Booth E70), MSPO (Booth F-6), and SOFEX Jordan (Booth H1-102), so be sure to visit us tomorrow if you're attending any of these shows. In our conversations this week, leaders from partner and allied nations echo a shared sentiment: the urgent need to modernize force structures by blending high-cost assets with intelligent, affordable solutions. V-BAT exemplifies this shift, offering a blend of superior performance and cost efficiency that is ideal for contemporary hybrid warfare strategies. Come see for yourself! Autonomy for the world. The greatest victory requires no war. #MSPO24 #SOFEXJordan #EgyptAirShow #VBAT #UAV #GreatestVictory #CTFVBAT

The Shield AI VBAT, deployed worldwide with the US and Allies, is the first operationally and combat deployed tail-sitter in history. Tail sitters are the most simple and performant VTOL architecture (if you don't care about passenger or crew comfort), which motivated teams of German, French, Chinese, and American engineers to try and build tail-sitting aircraft 21 times between 1944 and today. Pictured: The 9th attempt at a modern tail-sitter, the Lockheed XFV (1954). The aircraft flew 32 times during its test campaign and successfully transitioned between fixed-wing flight and hover. However, it never matured enough to launch or land vertically, relying instead on conventional landing gear. We define the possible at Shield AI.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems Division Chief at U.S. Coast Guard

Reflecting this Labor Day on the significant contributions of the American workforce. I'm also reminded of the significant contributions of our Coast Guard workforce, operating and maintaining aging cutters, aircraft, and small boats to meet our broad range of mission sets year-round, 24x7x365. As the American workforce has evolved to embrace new technologies so must we. Unmanned systems and associated technologies can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Coast Guard operations, reducing demands on our limited assets and enabling our workforce to focus on mission execution. I'm particularly excited at the possibilities presented following the announcement in June of our contract with Shield AI. Shield brings together artificial intelligence (AI), the V-BAT unmanned aircraft system, and persistent, wide area motion imagery (and significantly more...that F-16 overhead might not be flown by a human pilot). The ability to leverage Shield's capabilities can be a force multiplier for Coast Guard cutters, significantly increasing the operational commander's maritime domain awareness and enabling a shift from a reactive to a proactive force posture. This isn't about replacing workers with machines; this is about leveraging technology to ensure our limited assets and workforce are in the right place, at the right time, with the right tools. That's also worth celebrating. https://lnkd.in/eS4GAUm8
