About us

Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed defense technology company whose mission is to protect service members and civilians with intelligent systems. In pursuit of this mission, Shield AI is building the world’s best AI pilot. Its AI pilot, Hivemind, has flown a fighter jet (F-16), a vertical takeoff and landing drone (V-BAT), and a quadcopter (Nova). Shield AI’s products and people are currently in the field actively supporting operations with the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. allies. Backed by top-tier Silicon Valley VC funds, Shield AI has established itself as the leader in AI for aviation. Combined Task Force (CTF) V-BAT is at it again this week — and on three continents! We're at the Egypt Airshow (Booth E70), MSPO (Booth F-6), and SOFEX Jordan (Booth H1-102), so be sure to visit us tomorrow if you're attending any of these shows. In our conversations this week, leaders from partner and allied nations echo a shared sentiment: the urgent need to modernize force structures by blending high-cost assets with intelligent, affordable solutions. V-BAT exemplifies this shift, offering a blend of superior performance and cost efficiency that is ideal for contemporary hybrid warfare strategies. Come see for yourself! Autonomy for the world. The greatest victory requires no war. #MSPO24 #SOFEXJordan #EgyptAirShow #VBAT #UAV #GreatestVictory #CTFVBAT

The Shield AI VBAT, deployed worldwide with the US and Allies, is the first operationally and combat deployed tail-sitter in history. Tail sitters are the most simple and performant VTOL architecture (if you don't care about passenger or crew comfort), which motivated teams of German, French, Chinese, and American engineers to try and build tail-sitting aircraft 21 times between 1944 and today. Pictured: The 9th attempt at a modern tail-sitter, the Lockheed XFV (1954). The aircraft flew 32 times during its test campaign and successfully transitioned between fixed-wing flight and hover. However, it never matured enough to launch or land vertically, relying instead on conventional landing gear. We define the possible at Shield AI.

Who says finance is boring? They’ve obviously never spoken to our CFO, Kingsley Afemikhe! A big thanks to CJ Gustafson for having Kingsley on the "Run the Numbers" podcast. Kingsley provides an insider’s look into international deal-making, strategic challenges in our industry, the job satisfaction gleaned from working in the defense tech sector, and so much more. Unmanned Aircraft Systems Division Chief at U.S. Coast Guard

Reflecting this Labor Day on the significant contributions of the American workforce. I'm also reminded of the significant contributions of our Coast Guard workforce, operating and maintaining aging cutters, aircraft, and small boats to meet our broad range of mission sets year-round, 24x7x365. As the American workforce has evolved to embrace new technologies so must we. Unmanned systems and associated technologies can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Coast Guard operations, reducing demands on our limited assets and enabling our workforce to focus on mission execution. I'm particularly excited at the possibilities presented following the announcement in June of our contract with Shield AI. Shield brings together artificial intelligence (AI), the V-BAT unmanned aircraft system, and persistent, wide area motion imagery (and significantly more...that F-16 overhead might not be flown by a human pilot). The ability to leverage Shield's capabilities can be a force multiplier for Coast Guard cutters, significantly increasing the operational commander's maritime domain awareness and enabling a shift from a reactive to a proactive force posture. This isn't about replacing workers with machines; this is about leveraging technology to ensure our limited assets and workforce are in the right place, at the right time, with the right tools. That's also worth celebrating. https://lnkd.in/eS4GAUm8

The greatest discoveries are at the intersection of disciplines. I love this picture because teammates of so many backgrounds are working together to prepare for a flight test - pushing the boundary of knowledge and capability. They are achieving something no person could ever do alone in a lifetime. Teamwork is magical. I regularly walk the floor to learn from my teammates. On this particular day, the team had no time for me, I chatted with a one or two people before I got the message - we're on a mission. So, I stepped back and took this picture. LFG! 🦅 💪 Shield AI

    Defense Tech | Autonomy

This picture is rare. Because these drones are so new, there are only a handful of photos and--despite what most claim--almost no videos of them exist online. This is a BQM-177 target drone. Built by Kratos Defense and Security Solutions, this is the military's latest and greatest target drone and is used as anti-ship cruise missile targets--making it one of the fastest and most maneuverable drones in the world. Shield AI is partnering with the US Navy to integrate autonomy into the BQM-177 and turn these into prototype flying test beds to accelerate autonomy integration with the warfighter. Proud to be part of the team that's going to crush this. My crystal ball says the lack of photos and videos will change dramatically in the near future 🔮 That other thing the BQM-177 is lacking: to my knowledge, it doesn't have a formal name--yet. Maybe it'll earn a proper name through this initiative... #ai #autonomy #navy #technology press release: https://lnkd.in/gq5nDi6c
