With the start of a new month, we're also thrilled to welcome a new Foundation Board President, Ken Schaefer! Ken works at Burns & McDonnell and recently served on the Shawnee Mission School District Strategic Plan Steering Committee. Ken will lead the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation in this role over the next few years, and we can't wait to see what we'll accomplish under his guidance and leadership!

Today marks the official start of the 2024-2025 school year and the first day for our new superintendent, Dr. Michael Schumacher. Our theme this year is ALL IN. Being ALL IN means being willing to face challenges head-on and work together to overcome them, and it means working tirelessly to ensure that each student and staff member feels a sense of belonging. We are excited to introduce and welcome our new superintendent, Dr. Michael Schumacher! Dr. Schumacher was selected by the Shawnee Mission Board of Education and announced as the district’s next leader in February. Big night - My daughter Isela was awarded the SMSD Superintendent Scholarship for Future Educators - She is going to be an amazing special education teacher - I am so proud of her and excited to have another teacher in the family - Thank you to Shawnee Mission School District

Yesterday we celebrated the outstanding tenure of Superintendent Dr. Michelle Hubbard and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Joe Gilhaus. After more than 6 decades combined in education, we wish them the very best in retirement. Thank you for your service! #OneShawneeMission
