Did you know? Florida law requires both parties in a divorce to take a parenting course when minor children are involved. Both you and your spouse must complete a four-hour course before the court makes a final judgment on the divorce—but you don’t have to attend together. The courses are designed to help separating and divorcing couples focus on what is in the best interests of their children and how to work more cooperatively with each other. The Florida Department of Children and Families offers a list of DCF-approved providers that offer the course in Florida.

Update: Hillsborough County schools will stay closed to students on Wednesday but plan to reopen Thursday, the district said late this morning. As of Tuesday, 35 schools remained without power. That’s down from the more than 100 schools that were inaccessible due to outages, flooding, and downed trees over the weekend, but still too many to welcome students Wednesday, as schools in Pasco and Pinellas counties open their doors.

Hillsborough County students will remain out of school at least one more day. Citing ongoing power outages at about 100 campuses, district officials announced they will not resume classes on Tuesday. They said they hope to reopen Wednesday. Other factors complicating the district’s reopening include standing water in about a dozen schools, delayed deliveries of food for cafeterias and road hazards and traffic signal outages in several communities.
