Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, and this month we recognize and celebrate the impact that queer individuals have made to our society. The LGBTQ+ community has always been, and continues to be, fighting for equal rights, acceptance, and inclusion. We believe that everyone is entitled to a workplace that respects, honors, and values their identities and lived experiences. This Pride Month, we want to share some statistics on LGBTQ+ workers, resources on how to find LGBTQ+ friendly organizations, and tips on how to be an ally in the workplace. ❓Did you know?❓ The Human Rights Campaign found the following in their 2018 report: 👉 46% of LGBTQ+ workers say they are closeted at work 👉 1-in-5 LGBTQ+ workers report having been told or had coworkers imply that they should dress in a more feminine or masculine manner 👉 53% of LGBTQ+ workers report hearing jokes about lesbian or gay people at least once in a while 👉 31% of LGBTQ+ workers say they have felt unhappy or depressed at work 🤔 How to Assess if a Company is LGBTQ+ friendly: 1. Conduct informational interviews with current and former employees and ask about their DEI initiatives 2. Check out their website: Do they mention having specific LGBTQ+ friendly benefits and policies? Do they celebrate Pride on their social media pages? 3. Some questions you can ask in your interview: Does your company have any Pride groups or resources for LGBTQIA+ employees? What are the LGBTQ+ friendly benefits you offer?
