  • SEAOCC SEE Award Recipient 🏆✨ Award of Merit – New Construction Yaamava’ Resort & Casino at San Manuel Congratulations Miyamoto International! The Yaamava’ Resort & Casino underwent a $760-million expansion, adding a new hotel tower, casino, gaming area, and entertainment venue to the existing casino, originally a bingo hall from 1986. Miyamoto faced challenges in seamlessly connecting the new and existing structures over seismic joints and designing for strong ground motions from the nearby San Andreas Fault. The lateral force resisting systems consist of steel buckling-restrained brace frames for the superstructure and concrete shear walls at the basement parking level. • SEAOCC SEE Award Recipient 🏆✨ Award of Merit – Retrofit Alteration Hyatt Centric Hotel Congratulations Buehler! The historic Marshall Hotel, originally the Hotel Clayton in 1911, was a jazz hub featuring performers like Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong. The renovation transformed the five-story unreinforced masonry structure into an 11-story steel-framed hotel. The new structure uses conventional steel up to the sixth floor and light-gauge steel for the upper five stories. Buckling-restrained braced frames provide lateral stability, while blending the historic charm into the modern era. To learn more about how the historic façade was preserved, read the full abstract here: https://lnkd.in/gb57xDE6. #SEAOCC #StructuralEngineering #EngineeringExcellence #WeSEEAboveAndBeyond #Innovation #SEAOC

  • SEAOCC SEE Award Recipient 🏆✨ Award of Excellence – Retrofit Alteration Lionakis Headquarters Renovation Congratulations Lionakis! Lionakis, one of Sacramento’s largest architecture firms, sought to consolidate their 150-person office into a single location. They chose the former Weaver Tractor Showroom, a historic 1940s building, for its unique design opportunities. Structural improvements included tying roofs together and fortifying the existing concrete frame with masonry shear walls and steel brace frames for earthquake safety. The project blends historic elements with modern design, transforming the space into a functional, innovative office while preserving its architectural heritage. To learn more about the unique building features and project design, read the full abstract here: https://lnkd.in/gb57xDE6. #SEAOCC #StructuralEngineering #EngineeringExcellence #WeSEEAboveAndBeyond #Innovation #SEAOC
