We hosted the Great ShakeOut at our Emergency Operations Center in Irwindale with the Earthquake Country Alliance. This event brought together various agencies and other partners to remind people that earthquakes are a fact of life in Southern California, and we all need to do our part to prepare. SCE’s seismic grid retrofit program helps keep the power flowing during major earthquakes and we continue our work to retrofit our buildings. https://lnkd.in/g3gH_iYq #ShakeOut #EarthquakePreparedness

Responding to disaster with unity. As Hurricane Milton approached, SCE crews were among the 50,000 utility workers who joined forces to help restore power in Florida. “We do something that not too many people can do, so when people are in need, we want to give back. We’re happy to be out here and making a difference,” said Rafael Gomez, SCE electrical crew foreman. After our experts examined conditions in SCE’s service area, we determined how people we could send to help Florida Power & Light recover without impacting SCE’s operations. 👏 👏 👏
One of the best things about the electric utility industry is how we help each other when help is needed most. This commitment to mutual assistance is second to none and it’s in action right now in Florida, where crews and equipment from at least 43 states and Canada are helping restore power to communities devastated by hurricanes Milton and Helene. A 10-crew team of 71 people from Southern California Edison (SCE) is arriving in Florida today. On behalf of everyone at Edison International, thanks to these lineworkers, supervisors and support team for their rapid and dedicated response. As co-chair of the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council, the main liaison between electric utilities and the federal government, I also had the opportunity today on behalf of our industry to thank President Biden, U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and others for their partnership in this effort. To the more than 50,000 utility workers who traveled to Florida, please work safely and be proud of your efforts to restore power to millions of customers as quickly as possible. #mutualassistance #lineworkers #HurricaneMilton #HurricaneHelene

California’s future is looking increasingly more electric. Listen now to the Office of Electricity | U.S. Department of Energy Grid Talk podcast for an enlightening conversation with Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Steven Powell on electrification in the state by 2045, the anticipated load growth and what we plan to do to strengthen a ready, reliable and resilient electric grid supporting it all.

Electricity demand is expected to grow 35% faster over the next decade than estimated just two years ago, according to Edison International’s recent paper Reaching Net Zero. That’s why we’re collaborating with NVIDIA to make smarter, more affordable technology solutions that provide power availability when and where customers need it. “Our customers are quickly adopting more products that depend on the electric grid,” said Shinjini Menon, SCE’s senior vice president of System Planning and Engineering. “They are counting on us to see that the grid is ready to meet their growing energy needs and be reliable, resilient and affordable.” Learn more about this exciting effort: https://lnkd.in/g4sWuNu5 #AI #electrification #NetZeroBy2045
