Save The Bay protects and restores San Francisco Bay for people and wildlife
About us
Save The Bay is the largest regional organization working to protect and restore San Francisco Bay for people and wildlife. We are the voice of the Bay and for almost 60 years, Save The Bay has inspired people to advocate for a clean and healthy Bay. In this era of climate change and a growing population, we work with scientists and policymakers to protect the Bay as our region's most important natural resource--essential to our environment, economy, and quality of life.

"And when [Bay Area cities] look at the before and after between when a plastic bag ban has been implemented and after that, what they see is that the trash volume reduces significantly." Hear our Political Director, Allison Chan, on NPR Morning Edition talk about the impacts the statewide plastic bag ban will have on pollution in storm drains and the environment. 🚮

🌊✨ This week our Political Director, Allison Chan, took the stage alongside Dr. Kristina Hill at a hearing hosted by state legislators in order to investigate the pressing issue of groundwater rise and toxic waste contamination in the Bay Area. Our shoreline has at least four times the amount of active cleanup sites that are at risk of flooding from sea level rise than anywhere else in the state. The State Water Board actively manages 367 of these cleanup sites. Plus, there are likely thousands of total vulnerable sites managed by other groups or completely undocumented just in the Bay Area, but regardless of how you slice the numbers the Bay Area is THE hotspot in California. Assemblymember Bonta expressed her deep concern for her region, stating she was 'traumatized' by data revealing how many unsafe sites are lurking in her East Bay backyard. Thank you Assemblymember Boerner for hosting this important wake-up call for the state! https://lnkd.in/gkq34xYQ Let’s stand together to protect our bay and communities. 💪🏽💚
