Since then, we have successfully written and driven the passage of 3 federal laws under 3 administrations. And our SAVE Promise Clubs are now the largest student-led anti-violence organization in America. About us
Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization with a mission to end school shootings and create a culture change that prevents violence and other harmful acts that hurt children. Through its life-saving, evidence-informed “Know the Signs” prevention programs, SHP educates and empowers youth and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be socially isolated and/or at risk of hurting themselves or others. Through nonpartisan policy and partnerships, SHP advances gun safety, youth mental health, and violence prevention education at the state and federal levels that protect all children from gun violence in their schools, homes, and communities. SHP is led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Make the Promise at www.sandyhookpromise.org.

Young voices are essential in the fight to end gun violence. A recent article from PBS features members of the National Youth Advisory Board for Sandy Hook Promise sharing their thoughts on gun violence and the accountability of parents in school shootings. Their perspectives remind us that legislative action is crucial for real change.

Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, we shine a light on the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. Did you know that two-thirds of all gun deaths are suicides, making it the second leading cause of death among young people? We believe that suicide is preventable when we recognize the warning signs and know how to get help. Our #KnowtheSigns programs train students and teachers to identify signs of suicide and social isolation, empowering our youth to support one another. School Leaders make it possible for so many of us to live into our dreams… There’s nothing like a safe and nurturing school building. The hustle and bustle of educators and students. The laughs shared between students. The care and concern showed between staff and students. Today, I had a chance to hang out with Sandy Hook Promise Program Partners at CIS 303 in the Bronx, New York for the kick off of our 2nd year of programming. Danielle Lerro Monica Brady Thank you for your leadership and believing in the future possibilities of all students. #ProtectOurKids

Ghost guns are untraceable, homemade firearms sold without background checks or serial numbers, making them easily accessible to those who are legally prohibited from purchasing firearms, including minors. In one tragic case, a 16-year-old used a ghost gun in a school shooting in Santa Clarita, CA, resulting in the deaths of two classmates. It's critical to advocate for stronger measures to ensure these dangerous weapons are regulated and kept out of the hands of those who should not have access to firearms.
