About us
Established in 2002, the San Francisco Women’s Political Committee (SFWPC) is the largest women’s organization in San Francisco with hundreds of active members of all ages and political parties, both female and male. SFWPC works to engage women in all dimensions of the political process. We are committed to elevating women into positions of leadership including elected office, boards, commissions and management positions. We are politically active and engaged through female and male candidate endorsements, initiative endorsements and presenting the only woman’s slate card in San Francisco. We actively advocate for policy improvements that support our bottomline issues – empowering women, girls and community. We are leading the sustainability of the women’s movement in San Francisco by convening the Annual San Francisco Women’s Policy Summit, hosting networking events and striving to cultivate partnerships with other women’s organizations. We also host some excellent parties throughout the year. Most of all, we seek to elevate the political conversation toward issues important to equality and gender parity. Women make up over half of society and thus, women must be equal partners in all areas of the political process. See our Policy site for more information. SFWPC is multi-party, general purpose committee run by a volunteer Board of Directors that meets every month. Statement Regarding Allegations Made Against Supervisor Ahsha Safai at the July 9, 2024 San Francisco Board of Supervisors Meeting Our organization takes allegations like this in San Francisco politics very seriously, and we have been working on how to proceed in this case since Tuesday July 9th’s BOS meeting. First and foremost, we want to acknowledge this individual’s bravery in coming forward publicly. Most people who have had their boundaries violated don’t come forward because they fear they won’t find support, be taken seriously, or be vilified and attacked. In the spirit of full transparency, Supervisor Safai stopped by our Summer in the City event on July 10th where a member of our organization informed him that we would need to arrange a meeting to discuss the issues raised at the July 9th Board of Supervisors meeting, outreach we were already planning on that was preempted by his unplanned attendance. We are in the process of scheduling a meeting with Supervisor Safai to discuss the matter, and will be reaching out to the individual, too.
