Word is getting out about our annual Seaside Soirée. Tickets are still available for both VIP and General Admission. As always, our gala is an excellent way for environmentally focused individuals and organizations to connect, network, and learn about substantive progress being made to protect San Diego's waters.

Progress! On the 1,000th consecutive day of shoreline closures in Imperial Beach, the California Legislature has unanimously approved a resolution urging Congress and the Biden Administration to declare the Tijuana River sewage crisis an emergency and provide complete funding to fix the flow of pollution. “With the passage of Assembly Joint Resolution 12, we are sending a clear message to our federal leaders that the time to act is now.” - Assemblymember David Alvarez Funding the project would mean doubling the capacity of the South Bay International Wastewater Treatment Plant and installing a desperately needed pump system to capture pollution before it reaches San Diego beaches. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Alvarez for leading the effort and authoring this critically important resolution.

Just another day in the office! 🌊 Laura, our Community Science Director, getting ready to take take mid-channel water samples in Mission Bay. Her work is instrumental in analyzing local #watersheds for bacteria, nutrients, metals, and other indicators of environmental health. This invaluable information helps drive awareness, action, and #CleanWaterPolicy throughout San Diego County.

"Imperial Beach is a Southern California community wedged between San Diego and Tijuana, and it's the kind of place where you'd like to stroll the pier, walk the sand, and surf the waves. But for the smell...The reek and the caution is because each day, millions of gallons of raw sewage originating in Mexico is gushing into the Pacific Ocean just south of here. Paloma Aguirre is the mayor of Imperial Beach." Paloma Aguirre, Imperial Beach Mayor: "We're living the biggest environmental crisis in the nation in my opinion. We have been named, sadly the most polluted beach in the entire United States." Phillip Musegaas, Executive director, San Diego Coastkeeper: "We've known how to treat sewage for over 100 years, we just need to have the political will and the money to invest in it to treat it properly, because we should not, absolutely not have people living next to a river of raw sewage and toxic chemicals. That's, it's insane." 👉Read more and see the video at https://yhoo.it/3xXx0TP #TijuanaRiver #ImperialBeach #SewageCrisis

Happy Friday!👋 Peter Rowe highlights our Earth to Beer with @CoronadoBrewing in this article. "Partnering with San Diego Coastkeeper, this is Coronado’s contribution to the national Earth to Beer campaign, which urges breweries to buy ingredients from environmentally sound sources. A good cause and, in this instance, a good beer: hop-forward — Amarillo and Simcoe hops — and balanced." 👉Read more at https://bit.ly/3WL8tuC #EarthToBeer #SanDiego #CoronadoBrewing

Thank you to all the volunteers who showed up, and our partners! 💙
Nine sites, seven partners, 688 volunteers, and 3,906 pounds of trash! 🙌🙌 We are so thankful to all our amazing partners and volunteers for another great July 5th cleanup. 🙏🙏 In just three hours, we recovered nearly 4,000 pounds of trash 😱 — mainly consisting of single-use plastics — which otherwise would have been washed into the sea, adding to the already critical pollution problem devastating the world’s oceans. Despite volunteers remarking that the beaches seemed cleaner than in previous years, which is an excellent sign that we are headed in the right direction together, we collected nearly 1,000 pounds more than last year (2,832 pounds 2023 total). If you missed us on the 5th, no worries! Check the link in bio for other cleanups coming up. 💪 Thanks again to our wonderful partners and friends from: 🌊 COOLA 🌊 Mitch’s Seafood 🌊 Un Mar De Colores 🌊 PADDLE FOR PEACE 🌊 San Diego Coastkeeper 🌊 I Love A Clean San Diego 🌊 The San Diego River Park Foundation
