We are pleased to announce that Patty, RN, on 7 West at Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, has been selected as our DAISY Award Honoree. Patty was nominated by a colleague who began the nomination by saying, “Patty is literally one of the best RNs I have ever worked with in my entire career.” The colleague continued, saying, “Patty is always patient-focused and comes to work every single shift with a smile, patience, and compassion. Patty displays great de-escalation skills and respect for her patients.” It was noted that Patty is adept at analyzing why a patient may be having a bad day, finding disconnects in communication, and adapting and understanding in order to engage and care for her patients. She connects with both patients and their families and is always a compassionate and thoughtful nurse. The DAISY Foundation DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes to recognize nurses for the extraordinary care they provide patients and families every day. A prayer for All Saints Day: Loving God, you have given the saints in heaven eternal happiness and they now live in the fullness of your glory. Because of their holy love for you, they also care about all of us, especially the sick confined to our hospitals. Thank you for the gift of their friendship and the witness of their holy lives. These puppets were made in 1929 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration, later known as the Work Projects Administration (WPA), a New Deal agency that employed people in the arts as well as unskilled workers. These two puppets are in the Saint Francis Hospital Archives. Originally used for School of Nursing recruitment, they were found in the 1950s by Sr. Anne Elizabeth and Elsie Muska Stolle in the old Educational Building on Collins Street and were given to the Alumni Association. #ThrowbackThursday #TBT
