Safe Alliance's Shelter staff, along with family volunteers from @Bank of America, Don’s Jamaican Kitchen, and DJ Cease came together to bring a little Halloween magic to guests staying at the Clyde & Ethel Dickson Domestic Violence Shelter. From decorated trunks to treats galore to a delicious food truck, it was a night filled with joy, laughter, and a sprinkle of spooky fun! As #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth draws to a close, our hearts are filled with gratitude for everyone who stood with us as Champions of Hope. Last year, five lives were tragically lost due to domestic violence in the Charlotte area—five lives that should still be with us today. Our hope is that through continued awareness and support, we can prevent such losses in the future. The funds raised this month will provide hope and healing to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout the year. #domesticviolence There is still time to donate and support survivors: https://lnkd.in/geQWkVzC

Supporting a loved one who may be going through domestic violence can feel overwhelming, but small steps can make a big difference. Here are some things you can do: 1️⃣ Make time – Reach out during a calm moment and just be there. Sometimes, all they need is someone willing to listen. 2️⃣ Listen without judgment – If they open up, just listen. Don’t jump in with advice or solutions. However, don't force the survivor to open up. 3️⃣ Believe them – Simple words like “I believe you,” “This isn’t your fault, ” and "you don't deserve this" go a long way. 4️⃣ Validate their feelings – It’s normal for survivors to feel a mix of emotions toward their partner. Let them know it’s okay to feel conflicted but remind them that violence is never okay. 5️⃣ Offer specific help – Help the survivor find support and resources. The Greater Charlotte Hope Line is a free, safe 24/7 hotline for Mecklenburg County residents. The important thing is to let the survivor know that you are there. 6️⃣ Call the police – If you know violence is happening actively, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1. Being there for someone can mean the world. 💜 #SupportSurvivors #YouAreNotAlone #GreaterCharlotteHopeLine #HopeAndHealing #EndDomesticViolence #DVAM #safeallianceclt #explore #believesurvivors #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth
