Check out the Rutgers Innovation October Technology of the Month! #RutgersResearch #RutgersInnovation
The October 2024 Technology of the Month is a 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲. Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressive agent that is often used to treat organ rejection following a transplant. Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School professors Amy Pappert, MD, and Cindy Wassef, MD, along with their collaborator Radhika Shah, developed a novel topical therapeutic approach for chronic skin disorders such as Pyoderma Gangrenosum. Current therapies focus on inflammation reduction, pain management, wound closure, and addressing underlying system diseases. The Rutgers research team incorporated cyclosporine A in Vitamin E oil to directly target the surface of the skin, modulating the local immune response while minimizing systemic side effects typically associated with oral or intravenous delivery. This innovation has potential application across dermatology, wound care, and autoimmune disease management. This technology is available for licensing and/or research collaboration.
